About the RoleWe are hiring a Chief of Staff / Head of Legal Operations to join our growing Legal team. This role sits at the intersection of executive strategy and legal department operations, driving organizational effectiveness at the highest level while building and running the operational backbone of the legal function. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable advising leadership on priorities and rolling up their sleeves to optimize legal workflows, vendor relationships and budgets.
The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $148,000.00 and up to $205,000.00. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
In this role, you can expect to- Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the legal leadership team, ensuring alignment across strategic priorities
- Drive cross-functional initiatives from planning through execution, holding stakeholders accountable to deadline and deliverables
- Prepare materials for team meetings, leadership meetings and communications on behalf of the team
- Manage the cadence of meetings, offsites and strategic planning process
- Develop and track KPIs and metrics to measure legal department performance and demonstrate value to the business
- Design, implement, and continuously improve legal department processes, workflows, and systems (e.g., matter management, contract lifecycle management, e-billing)
- Own the legal department's budget, including forecasting, spend tracking, and outside counsel fee management
- Manage relationships with outside counsel and legal vendors, including negotiating rates and evaluating performance
- Manage the law enforcement and government response team, overseeing intake, triage, and response to subpoenas, warrants, and other government or law enforcement requests
- Support legal team hiring, onboarding, and resource planning
- Partner with legal, compliance, and security teams to escalate complex or sensitive requests.
To thrive in this role, you have- 10+ years of experience in a combination of chief of staff, legal operations, management consulting, or law firm/in-house legal roles
- Ability to work with and manage team members at all levels while remaining
- proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism, collaboration and discretion
- Strong financial acumen, including budget management and vendor negotiation experience
- Strong familiarity with legal technology platforms (CLM, e-billing, matter management systems)
- Experience managing law enforcement or government request response processes (e.g., subpoenas, warrants, regulatory inquiries) preferred
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information for executive audiences
- High degree of discretion and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently, prioritize ruthlessly, and drive results in ambiguous environments
