Chief of Staff, CEO Office

Summary:
The Chief of Staff (CoS) serves as a senior strategic and operational partner to the Chief Executive Officer, extending the CEO's capacity to lead effectively across the organization. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, communication, and execution - serving as the connective tissue between the CEO's office and Summa Health's executive, clinical, and operational leadership teams.
The Chief of Staff enables the CEO to focus on the highest-value priorities by driving enterprise execution, managing critical initiatives, facilitating decision-making, and ensuring alignment across clinical, operational, and administrative functions. The CoS acts as an integrator, problem-solver, and liaison between senior leaders, physicians, external partners, and the Board.
This is a high-trust, high-visibility role requiring exceptional judgment, discretion, and the ability to move fluidly between strategic thinking and operational detail.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Formal Education Required:
a. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree (MHA, MBA, MPH, or clinical advanced degree) strongly preferred.
2. Experience and Training Required:
a. 10+ years of progressive experience in operations, strategy, and stakeholder management; at least 2-3 years leading enterprise-scale execution in a fast-paced, complex organization.
b. Demonstrated ownership of large, cross-functional implementations taken all the way to measured adoption and sustained KPI movement.
c. Track record of influencing and holding accountable senior executives and clinical leaders without direct authority over them.
3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to synthesize complex information clearly and concisely. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
b. Impeccable discretion, executive judgment, and integrity in the stewardship of confidential and highly sensitive matters. High emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate sensitive organizational dynamics with composure.
c. Fluency with health system financial and operating mechanics: EBITDA drivers, payer mix, volume and referral dynamics, labor productivity, length of stay, access and capacity.
d. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with patients/customers with the understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
4. Level of Physical Demands:
a. Sedentary work; primarily office-based with frequent travel across Summa Health campuses and community sites. Extended hours commensurate with executive leadership demands.
$118.96/hr - $178.42/hr
The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members when determining offers. Please keep in mind that the range that is listed is the full base salary range. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical.
