Full Job Description
Our CEO sets the strategic agenda. This role makes sure it lands. As Chief of Staff and Strategic Program Management, you will be the execution counterpart to the CEO - the person who takes our most important initiatives from intent to completion. Some are led by the CEO directly. Others are led by members of our Leadership Team. In both cases, you are the connective tissue: the one person with a complete, current view of what is moving, what is stuck, and what needs a decision. This is a high-visibility, high-trust seat with unusual breadth. You will sit close to strategy, Board, and investor work, and you will touch every function in the company. It is also a hands-on role without a team behind it. You will build the trackers, write the briefs, run the meetings, and chase the commitments yourself. If that combination is energizing rather than daunting, read on. What you will do • Own how our key initiatives progress. Hold the master view - milestones, owners, dependencies, risks, and decision points - regardless of which executive leads the work. Run the cadence that keeps it current and honest. • Drive work forward across the Leadership Team. You will not have authority over the people doing the work. You will have clarity, credibility, and the CEO's confidence. Pursue commitments without friction, surface slippage before it becomes a surprise, and clear obstacles that sit between functions. • Represent the CEO. Stand in where his intent needs to be present. Carry it faithfully, and know the difference between a decision you can make, one you should shape, and one you bring back. • Prepare the CEO. Make sure he enters every Leadership Team meeting, Board session, investor conversation, and key external meeting with the right material, the right framing, and the right questions. • Design our operating rhythm. Leadership Team meetings, quarterly reviews, and offsites - agendas that force the real conversation, pre-reads that respect people's time, decisions captured, actions closed. • Build with AI. Use AI aggressively and intelligently to compress synthesis, drafting, analysis, and tracking - and bring others along by showing them what is now possible. We expect this role to model what a modern operating function looks like. • Take on what lands on a CEO's desk. Analyses, diligence support, competitive reviews, and the range of one-off work that needs a capable and trusted owner. This role is based at our Florham Park, New Jersey headquarters on a hybrid schedule, with three days per week onsite. The job runs on presence and relationships, so candidates should be located within a reasonable commute of Florham Park. Requirements • Five or more years of demonstrated ownership of complex, multi-workstream initiatives - the full arc, from framing through to completion. • A track record of influencing senior stakeholders without authority, and of holding executives to their commitments in a way that strengthens the relationship rather than straining it. • Direct experience working with, presenting to, or supporting C-suite leaders. • Real fluency with AI tools, and a conviction that they change how work gets done. • Meticulous attention to detail paired with a strong bias toward action. • Clear, concise writing, with the ability to produce executive- and Board-ready material. • Sound judgment and absolute discretion with confidential information. • A Bachelor's degree. Strong candidates often come from a top-tier strategy or management consulting firm, or from program leadership in a commercial pharmaceutical, biotech, or comparably regulated environment. Experience in a small, publicly traded company is a plus, as is an advanced degree - but neither is required. Benefits At Phathom, we prioritize the total well-being of our "Phamily" members. Our commitment is reflected in a competitive employee benefits package designed to support employees and their families' overall well-being, now and in the future, including: • Highly competitive medical, dental and vision coverage options with low monthly premiums • Roth & Traditional 401(k) savings plan with annual employer match • Long-term incentive equity compensation program • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) • Comprehensive paid leave programs, including: • 16 weeks of paid parental leave for all new parents • 4-week part-time Bridge-Back-to-Work Program • Hybrid and Flex Working Arrangements • Unlimited Time Off • 17 paid company holidays in addition to a year-end winter shutdown period Other Benefits: • Annual Fitness & Wellbeing Reimbursement • Company-provided Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance • Company-provided short and long-term disability benefits • Company-funded HSA plan • Accident and Hospital Indemnity insurance • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) • Employee recognition program The expected annual base salary range for this role is $235,000 - $300,000.
