Chief Nursing Officer

Summary: The CNO develops and directs nursing services to provide efficient and quality patient care. Works with hospital leadership to plan, formulate and lead the functions and operations of MMH's nursing services.

Titles Supervised: ED Manager, IC/EH, Medsurg/SCU Manager, EMS Manager, Case Management, Surgery Manager, and Dietician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise all nursing services and maintain standards of nursing practice within hospital.
  • Assess quality of care rendered continuously and initiate development and revisions to policies and procedures that govern nursing and related services under oversight.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services.
  • Evaluate the quality and cost effectiveness of staffing plan and services.
  • Serve as spokesperson for nursing matters and represent MMH with professional nursing and related organizations.
  • Develop and implement goals and objectives for nursing units.
  • Ensure appropriate mechanisms are in place for communication between nursing, medical staff and administration.
  • Supervise, evaluate, discipline, motivate, provide direction and develop managers and staff via training and educational opportunities.
  • Participate in budgeting process and account for budget expenditures and variances.
  • Submit periodic reports including but not limited to operations, benchmarks, goals attainments and staffing requirements to CEO and others as needed.
  • Conduct periodic meetings with managers and staff to share information updates and obtain employee participation and feedback.
  • Conduct performance reviews and administer discipline in an unbiased and objective manner.

Education: BSN or BS required with active IL RN license.

Experience: 5-10 years of previous experience in a hospital setting including supervisory and/or management experience preferred.
