POSITION SUMMARYThe Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of Metro United Way's Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the organization. The CFO provides strategic financial leadership, ensures fiscal integrity and sustainability, and supports the organization's mission through sound financial management, planning, and analysis.
The CFO oversees accounting, budgeting, compliance, risk management, and financial reporting, and partners with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors, Finance, Endowment and Investment Committees, and other relevant team members to drive organizational impact.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions1. Organizational Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board on financial strategy and long-term planning
2. Leadership & Department Management
- Lead finance team members and provide guidance for professional development
3. Financial Planning & Analysis
- Oversee annual budgeting process
4. Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
5. Compliance, Risk Management & Organizational Filings
- Oversee audits (financial, single audit if applicable) and manage the relationship with external auditors
6. Pledge Processing and Grants
- Direct the pledge processing function to assure that all donor contributions are properly accounted for and collection of pledges is maximized
7. Treasury & Investment Management
- Oversee cash flow, liquidity, and working capital management
8. Board & Committee Engagement
- Serve as the primary staff support for the Finance Committee, Investment Committee and other ad hoc committees owned by the finance department
9. Cross Functional Work and Other Duties
- Act as the administrator and fiduciary of the Defined Benefit Plan and the 403(b) Thrift Plan
Education / Experience Requirements:? Seven years of related experience required; nonprofit finance background preferred
? Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field required
? CPA required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Must be personally committed to Metro United Way's mission, vision, team values and strategies
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, budget and CRM software
- Metro United Way currently uses Accumatica accounting software and Andar CRM
- Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles required
- Knowledge of workplace campaigns, major gift, capital campaign and grant management best practices
- Experience preparing and maintaining budgets
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with set deadlines/guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team-based environment and successfully manage direct reports
- Demonstrated analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to think independently and show sound logical and ethical reasoning
- Strong communication skills: verbal, written, public speaking and presentation
- Must be bondable
- Must be able to work nights, weekends and other unusual hours as needed (not frequently).
Education Requirements (All) Four year degree in related field
