Full Job Description
The Chief Estimator is responsible for leading and managing a team of estimators to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects. This role involves overseeing the preparation of bid proposals, coordinating with various Enterprise Markets, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies. The Chief Estimator plays a crucial role in securing new projects and contributing to the overall success and profitability of the company.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management:
    • Lead and mentor the estimating team, providing guidance, and support to ensure high performance.
    • Collaborating with VP of Estimating to allocate resources effectively and manage the workload of the estimating team.
    • Giving report out and updates of estimating team assigned to growth and development as it relates to Estimators.
  • Estimating and Proposal Development:
    • Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
    • Establish project playbook for estimators so they know what they are responsible for and when it is to be delivered.
    • Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive estimates.
    • Coordinate with VPE's, project managers, engineers, and architects to gather necessary information for accurate estimating.
    • Ensure that all estimates are complete, accurate, and submitted within the required timeframe.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with VPE's, estimator, and project management teams to understand project requirements and objectives.
    • Assist VPE's in communicating with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain necessary information and clarify project details.
    • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid negotiations as required.
  • Quality Control and Risk Management:
    • Review of all contracts and front-end documents. Work closely with VPE's to incorporate proposals and contract negotiations.
    • Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates and develop mitigation strategies.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay current with industry trends, market conditions, and technological advancements in estimating software and tools.
    • Collaborating with VP of Estimating to promote and implement process improvements to enhance estimating efficiency and accuracy.
    • Provide feedback to management on potential opportunities for business growth and process optimization.

Qualifications
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction estimating, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
    • Proven history of successfully estimating and securing large-scale construction projects.
