Full Job Description
The hotel chief engineer leads the property's maintenance and engineering operations. They are responsible for overseeing building systems (MEP/HVAC), directing preventive maintenance, managing department budgets, and ensuring guest safety and comfort. The role bridges technical repairs and executive hotel leadership.
Responsibilities
• Facility Maintenance: Oversees the upkeep of the physical plant, guest rooms, public spaces, and exterior grounds. Ensures flawless operation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and life safety systems.
• Preventive Maintenance (PM): Develops and executes systematic, scheduled maintenance to prevent equipment breakdowns, reduce reactive work orders, and maximize asset lifespan.
• Team Leadership: Hires, trains, schedules, and mentors engineering and maintenance staff.
• Budget & Asset Management: Manages the department's expense budgets, payroll, and assists in forecasting multi-year Capital Expenditure (CapEx) plans for property renovations.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal building codes, fire regulations, and OSHA/ADA standards.
• Cross-Department Collaboration: Partners heavily with Housekeeping and the Front Office to maintain room readiness standards and quickly respond to guests
Qualifications
• Prior hotel engineering experience
• Supervisory and leadership experience
• Strong PM Program experience
• Well-versed in MEP Trades
