Position Overview
As the Chief Engineer at avid hotel, you will lead the hotel's engineering operations to maintain the physical condition of the property and keep equipment running at peak efficiency. avid hotels focus on delivering the modern essentials seamlessly-offering guests a high-quality, reliable stay.

In this hands-on leadership role, you will oversee mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire safety systems, ensuring total compliance with brand standards, safety regulations, and operational budgets.
Key ResponsibilitiesBuilding Maintenance & Operations
  • Direct daily engineering operations and manage room/building repairs including plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, and basic carpentry.
  • Execute and oversee IHG/avid hotel Preventative Maintenance (PM) Programs across guest rooms, public spaces, and mechanical areas.
  • Monitor and respond promptly to maintenance work orders to minimize downtime and preserve a high standard of guest satisfaction.
  • Oversee energy management systems, supporting brand sustainability and "green" initiatives while minimizing operational waste.
Safety, Compliance & Security
  • Maintain full compliance with local, state, and federal codes (OSHA, EPA, fire safety, and building regulations).
  • Regularly inspect and test critical systems, including emergency power generators, fire alarms, life safety equipment, and water systems.
  • Keep complete records, inspection logs, and service agreements up to date.
  • Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintain safety protocols throughout the team.
Departmental Management & Vendor Support
  • Lead, schedule, and train maintenance team members to maintain high work standards and guest-focused hospitality.
  • Supervise outside contractors and technical service vendors to ensure scope of work and warranty compliance are met.
  • Manage maintenance supply inventories, order parts responsibly, and operate within established departmental budgets.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of building maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in hotel or commercial facilities management.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced troubleshooting skills in HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building repairs.
  • Certifications (Preferred/Required):
    • Level 3 HVAC Certification. PTAC
    • Local trade licenses where applicable.
  • Core Competencies:
    • Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or work order platforms. (Quore)
    • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills.
    • Ability to read electrical/plumbing schematics and equipment manuals.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 75 lbs. periodically.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, bend, and work in tight or elevated spaces for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, weekends, holidays, and handle on-call emergency requests when necessary.
