Chief Development OfficerChief Development OfficerLearn more about your job: Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for the strategy, implementation, execution, expansion and monitoring of all aspects of non-government resource development for Children's Bureau. The CDO leads the agency's fundraising plans, including major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation relationships, grants, planned giving and special events. A highly collaborative leader, the CDO is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, creating fundraising strategies to meet All For Kids short and long-term objectives.
Managing a team of 9, including the Director of Development, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, and Associate Director of Operations, the ideal candidate is a high-achieving, strategic leader with exceptional communication skills, responsible for an annual fundraising goal of just over $4M. The new CDO will have a proven track record of creating a culture of philanthropy, donor prospecting and cultivation, Board development, closing major gifts, and staff management.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOrganizational and Fundraising Leadership - Partner with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Board of Trustees, and Board of Directors, aligning all fund development strategies with the agency's mission and direction.
- Design and lead the implementation of annual and long-term fund development plans to secure gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations and government.
- Establish performance measures and support systems to help the Executive Leadership Team and Boards fulfill their roles in fund development.
- Serve as a key member of the leadership team, monitoring and addressing issues that challenge and support the agency's health and effectiveness.
- Manage a diversified portfolio of revenue by building a moves management pipeline to attract, retain, and motivate donors and fundraising volunteers.
- Serve as the agency's lead major gifts officer and support the CEO, Board members, volunteers and staff to identify, cultivate, and solicit charitable gifts.
Staff and Resource Management - Create a culture that embraces innovation, empowering staff by providing clear objectives, direction and prioritization of fundraising goals and timelines.
- Ensure timely, accurate and comprehensive reports on income, expenses, events, and donor acknowledgements.
- Lead and ensure a robust moves management program, including research, cultivation, major donor events, and donor recognition.
- Develop strong prospect research capabilities and lead the design and maintenance of donor and prospect records, gift management systems, and informational reports.
- Design and implement cost-effective fund development programs, deploying resources efficiently, effective and fairly.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintaining accountability to donors and appropriate standards of professional conduct and principles for fundraising executives.
Volunteer Leadership - Help identify, cultivate, train, and motivate all volunteers. Annually, evaluate volunteer performance and report recommendations to the Board and CEO.
- Partner with the CEO, event committee chairs, and Board members to facilitate optimum collaborations among staff and volunteers.
- Assist Board members and volunteer committee to fulfill their responsibilities effectively and manage annual calendar of events.
- Serve as the key staff leader and contact for the Board of Trustees.
- Work with CEO and Board members to identify and recruit Board prospects.
What you will need to bring: - A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in fund development required.
- Bachelor's degree in business, philanthropy, marketing and communications, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience required.
- Ability to use interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with potential funders, board members internal and external stakeholders.
- Track record of building individual and major gift programs: identifying prospects, cultivating new donor relationships, and closing major gifts of over $10,000 on a regular basis.
- Comprehensive staff management skills, including experience building, mentoring and coaching a team of high-performing professionals, with a commitment to the continuous education and training of the development team.
- In-depth and current knowledge of fundraising practices and procedures, with a strong understanding of donor management systems.
- Experience in producing successful and meaningful special events.
- Experience working with a volunteer-driven, community-based organization and a deep passion for the mission and values of All For Kids.
- Outstanding written and oral communications skill.
