Department of Emergency Medicine
Chief Advanced Practice Provider

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center (BMC)/Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine is seeking a Chief Advanced Practice Provider (APP). The Chief APP is a leadership position that represents the APP staff and provides oversight for all aspects of APP practice within the Department of Emergency Medicine. In addition, the Chief APP provides oversight and direction to the Lead APPs. Reporting directly to the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs, the Chief APP as part of the clinical operations team works closely with the Medical Director of the ED to identify and execute strategic priorities, especially as it relates to the EM APP staff. The Chief APP works in collaboration with other leaders in the department including the Medical Director of Quality and Patient Safety, EM Residency Program Director, and ED Nursing leadership. The Chief Advanced Practice Provider is also responsible for the care of emergency department patients under the direction of the attending physicians and in accordance with the rules and regulations of Massachusetts governing an APP's practice.
Managerial Duties:

Serves as clinical resource for staff through consultation, formal and informal education, mentorship, review of literature and participation in seminars and conferences

Participate in the planning of the APP staff educational activities in the Department

Supervises assigned staff, including recruiting, hiring, and on-boarding. Ensures staff meets mandatory training and licensing requirements

Responsible for all annual performance reviews by applicable organization; BMC performance review; BMC OPPEs, BUSM Faculty Annual Review; all other mandatory compliance training

Prepares performance evaluations in conjunction with physician and/or department leadership.

Addresses behavioral issues and adverse interpersonal interactions involving the APP staff

Responsible for effective and efficient operations for area of oversight

Manages the process for schedules, PTO tracking, and coordinates with HR around related processes, and oversees the monthly APP and/or program staff (if applicable) clinic schedule for department coverage

Works closely with department/section leadership on initiatives and projects to improve workflows and patient care and to manage department expectations

Other duties as needed, which may include, but not limited to, education and research efforts, as defined by the department
Minimum requirements: Graduate of an accredited APP program with a minimum of a Master's degree; 5+ years of clinical experience in the emergency department; Strong preference will be given to candidates with 2+ years of progressive administrative responsibilities with proven record of leadership in a complex health care setting.

Compensation Range:
$140,500.00- $204,000.00
This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
