In this role, you'll perform advanced chemical, physical, and sensory analysis across a wide range of materials - from grapes and wines to water and incoming ingredients - using cutting-edge instrumentation including GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-OES, and infrared analyzers. You'll be trusted to develop and validate new analytical methods, troubleshoot complex data, and ensure every result we deliver is accurate, timely, and legally defensible. Your work won't just live in a lab - it will shape decisions across production, winemaking, compliance, and innovation teams throughout our organization.

We're looking for someone who thrives both independently and collaboratively. You'll mentor interns and technicians, contribute to our ISO 17025-compliant quality management system, and play an active role in continuous improvement initiatives including corrective action, control charting, and internal auditing. When something looks off in the data, you're the kind of person who doesn't just flag it - you dig in, find the root cause, and drive the fix.

What You'll Need
  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, or Biochemistry plus 1 year of chemistry/microbiology laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor's degree with a combined 20 college coursework units of chemistry, biology, and/or microbiology plus 2 years of chemistry/microbiology laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate with a combined 20 college coursework units of chemistry, biology, and/or microbiology plus 6 years of chemistry/microbiology laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 7 years of chemistry/microbiology laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Required to successfully meet all requirements, including educational and experience background, to obtain certification in the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau's Certified Wine and Distilled Spirits Chemist program.
  • Experience with complex automated laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment.
  • Experience reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint at an intermediate level.
  • Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers.
  • Required to maintain 3 shift availability (day, swing, and graveyard); required to work overtime when necessary; required to work weekends when necessary.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

How You'll Stand Out
  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, or Biochemistry plus 2 years of chemistry/microbiology laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor's degree with a combined 20 college coursework units of chemistry, biology, and/or microbiology plus 5 years of chemistry/microbiology laboratory experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience working in an ISO:17025 accredited laboratory
  • Experience implementing or sustaining laboratory quality assurance practices including corrective/preventive action, document control, training records management, control charting, and internal auditing.
  • Experience applying mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Experience interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Strong instrument troubleshooting, maintenance and repair skills.
  • Experience effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
  • Experience solving practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Experience writing reports, business correspondence and lab procedures.
