Position Overview:

This Chemist position serves as a key scientific resource within the Quality Control Chemistry Laboratory, supporting predominantly inorganic analytical work. The role blends hands-on laboratory expertise with technical leadership, helping ensure the accuracy, reliability, and continuous improvement of the lab's analytical capabilities. The Chemist contributes to method development, refines existing procedures, and supports research efforts that enhance product understanding and performance. Collaboration is central to this role-working closely with technicians, internal teams, customers, and vendors to interpret data, communicate results, and guide decisions. The position also plays a part in training staff, evaluating analytical outcomes, and supporting cost and project planning. Overall, this role is well-suited for someone who enjoys solving complex chemistry challenges, strengthening laboratory practice, and contributing to both day-to-day operations and long-term improvement initiatives.

Your Day to Day as a Chemist:
  • Provides daily support to a Quality Control Chemistry Lab (work is predominately inorganic in nature).
  • Oversees, troubleshoots, and performs established analytical chemistry determinations consistently and accurately.
  • Generates procedures for analytical chemistry determinations geared towards meeting precision and accuracy requirements. Reviews, comments, and modifies existing procedures.
  • Develops and performs new chemistry related R&D efforts.
  • Trains and qualifies lab technicians to perform analytical chemistry determinations.
  • Performs calculations in order to complete assignments.
  • Assesses and approves results from analytical chemistry determinations performed by chemistry lab technicians and chemists.
  • Authors and reviews reports and technical submittals to customers.
  • Interprets product specifications from a chemistry perspective.
  • Conducts meetings with internal and external customers, vendors, and representatives from other departments.
  • Prepares cost estimates for new and existing contracted work as needed.
  • Solves a variety of technical issues related to analytical chemistry determinations.
  • Participate on process improvement teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or other physical/life science field (ex: Environmental Science, Biology, etc.) plus ten (10) years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess at least four (4) year of experience in a Quality Control laboratory setting.
  • Previous experience in a Quality Control, analytical laboratory that is inorganic in nature.
  • Previous experience using operating instruments such as ICP-MS, ICP-OES, pycnometers, surface area analyzers, gas analyzers, UV-Vis, KPA, and wet chemistry titration.
  • Prior experience with testing and handling UCO material.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must possess ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems is desired.

Pay: $86,000 - $136,000

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $86,000 and $136,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
