JOB SUMMARY:The Buyer - Fuel Operations, works to purchase assigned commodities and services (a wide variety of standard and special items) to proper specifications for function intended, from the best qualified supplier and assuring maximum return (lowest cost, highest quality, on-time delivery, etc.) for each dollar spent is obtained, all within ethical purchasing practices and Company policy.
Your Day to Day:Commodities & Services Purchasing- Purchase assigned commodities and services;
- Obtain vendor quotations for materials, equipment, services, etc.;
- Review and analyze quote to ensure clarity and accuracy of technical and commercial items.
Qualified Suppliers Sourcing - Visit with suppliers to stay current with vendor capabilities;
- Develop strategic product/commodity procurement and develop new vendors considering all business factors including technical, market, commercial, scheduling and quality factors.
On Time Delivery- Review purchase requisitions to assure scope is properly specified;
- Ensure sufficient lead times are given;
- Maintain internal interface;
- Coordinate the shipment of free issue materials as required.
Supplier Information- Review cost estimates with Proposal Management personnel in order to prepare cost estimate for commodities and services required for the proposal;
- Create Purchase Commitment form and review supplier bids for vendor selection
Cost Reduction - Maintain an on-going value analysis and cost reduction effort for the assigned commodities;
- Expedite all open orders and search for potential suppliers, negotiating cost reduction with existing supply base.
Contract Administration - Arrange and participate in meetings between suppliers and BWC engineering, operations, and project management personnel;
- Provide supplier corrective action resolution and supplier quality improvement.
Compliance - Ensure compliance with applicable external codes, regulations and guidelines as well as internal standards set by BWC.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - College diploma or University degree;
- Three plus years of experience in supply chain management;
- CPP enrollment (preferred);
- Supplier relationship development, negotiation skills, excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively within teams;
- Basic product knowledge and understanding of BW Canada's business processes;
- Proficient in most business related software applications;
- Knowledge of department procedures and QAM/QPM;
- Some capability with regard to risk management and quality tools

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $73,000 and $106,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
