Full Job Description
The Opportunity

Are you a Chemist ready to trade the lab coat for a lead role in commercial strategy? Or a Chemical Buyer who thrives on the technical data behind the SKU? This role will have a major impact on the trajectory of the business. You must feel confident that you can learn our business and then make recommendations regarding process and product additions.

Lab Alley is a fast-paced B2B eCommerce powerhouse looking for a Chemical Portfolio Manager to serve as the "Scientific Brain" of our business. In this role, you aren't just managing a list of items; you are the portfolio architect. You will bridge the gap between complex chemical data and high-velocity commercial execution.

We need a "hands-on" product launcher with a strong technical foundation in chemistry who wants to apply that expertise to supply chain strategy, regulatory compliance, and digital excellence. Reporting to the Sr. Operations Manager and working directly with the CEO and lead Chemist, you will continuously build out our product roadmap and ensure our technical integrity remains "zero-error" as we scale. At the core, you will work cross functionally to successfully launch new products.

This is onsite in Austin.

Responsibilities: What You'll Do
Product & Supplier Lifecycle Management
  • Lead product launches and integration: Orchestrate high-impact product introductions by synchronizing workflows across Operations, Marketing, IT, and Customer Relations to ensure every launch is flawless and every department is aligned.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with the CEO and Chemist to translate product vision into actionable plans, and collaborate effectively with Operations, Customer Relations, Finance, Marketing, and IT to ensure successful product initiatives.
  • Standardize the Launch Process: Engineer and enforce a standardized process for adding new chemicals to our digital storefront, conducting meticulous quality audits to ensure technical accuracy and brand consistency.
Product Information Management
  • Centralize Product Intelligence: Act as the single source of truth for all product data. You will oversee the integrity of our eCommerce product pages, manage all related documentation, and ensure accuracy in physical packaging labels, including the generation of final label PDFs.
  • Champion customer satisfaction: Serve as the vital link between Customer Relations, Quality, and Supply Chain. You will advocate for the customer by translating feedback into vendor-side improvements, coordinating with the Quality team to resolve root-cause issues, and ensuring internal stakeholders are fully briefed on resolution paths.
  • Regulatory Documentation Guidance: Guide the Supply Chain and Purchasing teams by clearly defining the documentation requirements (e.g., certifications, country-of-origin details) for all types of products, especially those sourced internationally and domestically, ensuring compliance before new product purchase.
Qualifications & Expertise: What You'll Bring

We are looking for a detail-obsessed professional who understands that in the chemical world, data integrity saves lives and builds brands. We provide the processes and training to set our new hires up for success.
  • Must-Haves:
    • 3+ years of progressive experience in Product Information Management, Product Development, Project Management or a related role
    • Chemical Background: either a degree in Chemistry or related field or prior deep experience in chemicals.
    • Data Integrity: A "zero-error" mindset. When dealing with chemicals and B2B shipping, the technical data on our website and labels must be 100% accurate.
    • Cross-Functional Workflow Orchestrator: Proven ability to manage a project through multiple departments (Operations, IT, Marketing) to get a product "shelf-ready" online.
    • Analytical prowess: Proficient in leveraging product data, sales results, and market insights to drive strategic decisions and inform demand planning.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to clearly articulate complex information, influence stakeholders, and build strong relationships across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
    • Problem-solving aptitude: Capable of identifying issues and advocating for effective solutions.
    • Systems Fluency: Strong Excel skills and technical aptitude

Nice-to-Haves:
  • Experience with inventory management/ERP platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing the full product lifecycle, from ideation and sourcing to launch and post-launch optimization.
  • Experience with product data management and documentation (e.g., technical data sheets, certifications, compliance).
Benefits & Logistics

We invest in our team's well-being and growth:
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Short Term Disability, Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Supplemental Health Insurance, Wellness Program, Employee Discount Program, Employee Assistance Program
  • Financial & Time Off: 401k, Paid Time Off.
  • Growth Opportunities: Organized team events, professional development, and clear career growth paths.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, occasional overtime) with a typical schedule of Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM. This role reports to the Sr Operations Manager.
