Responsibilities

  • Monitor and adjust chemical processes, equipment, and control systems in the chlorine area.
  • Utilize mechanical and overhead equipment to support operations in the chlorine section.
  • Cross-train for versatility in chlorine and utility operations within the Compressor Building.
  • Handle product loading/unloading, while monitoring tank levels and flow rates.
  • Perform equipment preparation, minor maintenance, and maintain overall cleanliness in the area.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot technical issues to support operational reliability and efficiency during maintenance or transitions.
  • Conduct safety and compliance inspections per Olin standards and participate in incident reporting and investigations.

Title: Chemical Operator- Chlorine D shift
Location: Charleston, TN
Salary: $46.16/hr
Schedule: Rotating Schedule

Focus: Olin Chlor Alkali Products & Vinyls, a division of Olin Corporation, has an opening for a Chemical Operator located in Charleston, TN. This position ensures a safe and reliable operation of a complex/heavily regulated chemical production plant by following operating disciplines, procedures, and work processes in a team environment. This role will be for the chlorine area in the Compressor Building.

Essential Functions:
  • Monitor and control chemical process conditions, equipment, and control systems; manage product samples and analysis, specifically in the chlorine system.
  • Support the chlorine area using mechanical and overhead equipment, along with operating industrial powered trucks
  • Cross-train and certify in the chlorine and utility areas of the Compressor Building.
  • Load/unload product, monitor tank levels and flow rates, and operate mechanical equipment
  • Perform operational tasks including field checks, equipment prep, permitting, minor maintenance, and general area housekeeping.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues and support maintenance, start-ups, and shutdowns for operational reliability and efficiency.
  • Conduct inspections per Olin standards and regulatory compliance (safety, DOT, quality), and prioritize safety and environmental stewardship, report near misses/incidents, assist in root cause investigations and perform Immediate Response activities.
  • Errors may result in severe consequences due to hazardous materials and complex equipment.

Position Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; in Process Technology, Industrial Engineering, Instrumentation, Electrical or Computer Technology preferred
  • Minimum of three years of work experience (36 months of full-time work at time of application)
  • Possess a valid U.S. Driver's license
  • Prior Olin experience in a related position
  • Effective communication skills are required, including the ability to communicate instructions and information effectively via radio.
  • Must meet the physical requirements, including, but not limited to, climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts.
  • Must be able to digest and disseminate written information and make numerical calculations sufficiently well to perform assigned general and specific duties and responsibilities.
  • Must have basic computer skills, Microsoft Office experience preferred. SAP experience preferred.
