Are you creative, innovative, and eager to do things we've never done before at GM? If so, you should apply for Chassis Controls Project Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and executing the "Design First" principles to enable new chassis technologies to go from concept to a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 and beyond. To properly develop new technologies, you will work with Controls Design Engineers, Model in the Loop Engineers, and a Rapid Prototype team to develop a solid controls foundation. The end result will be a proof of concept that is ready to move to a production team.

The role is to help lead our Chassis organization to "Enable Confident, Early Design Decisions on Chassis Technology." To create an engineering environment where teams can make early, confident design decisions through models, simulation, and structured exploration of the problem space.

Our mission is to help engineers discover risks sooner, evaluate options thoughtfully, and refine designs efficiently while improving quality and reducing rework. By focusing on early insight rather than late correction, Controls Design First strengthens safety, performance, and technical clarity across control-system development.

Through shared standards, collaborative reviews, and an integrated toolchain, we aim to build organizational alignment, support innovation, and deliver measurable improvements in engineering outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Test MIL environments for Chassis Controls Developers

  • Assess current virtual capability of plant models
  • Provide feedback to virtual teams on where our plant models need improvement
  • Set up MIL environments to be able to run automated tests and post processing of data for developers
  • Explore the problem using low-fidelity models and simple control structures early.
  • Increase model fidelity as the design converges and uncertainty decreases.
  • Validate MIL capability and limitations

  • In-depth engineering design knowledge in one or more of:
    • Automotive suspension, brake, steering systems, and driveline systems

  • Demonstrated self-starter who can work independently and deal with ambiguity
  • 5 or more years of controls and/or diagnostic related development, test or validation experience
  • Experience creating MatLab/SimuLink models
  • Understanding of vehicle modelling tools such as CarSim or CarMaker and ability to integrate with SimuLink models
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

Education and Training
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science
  • DFSS Certification

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
