Summary
The Charge Nurse directly supervises staff and is a clinical expert practitioner specific to the unit and/or initiative. This position includes both direct and indirect patient care in combination with education/staff development functions as well as designated management functions to promote high quality, cost effective health care.
Qualifications
Required:- Current and unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) through the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
- American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providers
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification or NRP instructor certification
- S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Certification
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring OR National Certification Corporation (NCC) Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) within three (3) years of hire or position entry and renewed every three (3) years thereafter.
- Three (3) years of clinical nursing in an acute care facility.
Preferred:- Current certification in specialty field
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Unit Specific Requirements: Labor and Delivery: Required:
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring OR National Certification Corporation (NCC) Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) within three (3) years of hire or position entry and renewed every three (3) years thereafter.
Pediatrics: Preferred:
- NVCI/CPI Training (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) initial certification within six (6) months of hire
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and skill in the specialization of the unit or initiative and uses this knowledge as a clinical resource for staff.
- Expertly provides direct patient care to patients and families in a culturally, developmentally and ethically appropriate manner.
- Effectively performs and improves all processes in order to achieve excellence with regard to CTH quality standards, benchmarks and Evidence Based Practice.
- As part of unit leadership, collaborates to provide direction for staff development activities, orientation programs and staff meetings.
- Supports Evidence Based Practice in clinical specialty to guide nursing practice, development of plans of care and interventions.
- Demonstrates the ability to enhance skills and performance of others in order to achieve professional and organizational goals. This competency is demonstrated by systematically providing clear objectives, performance-specific feedback, effective coaching and developmental experience/opportunities.
- Demonstrates the ability to optimize utilization of staff, matching staff talents and proficiencies to organizational needs in making, evaluating and reorganizing patient care assignments.
- As part of unit leadership, manages daily operational throughput process in collaboration with other unit leaders, Administrative Coordinator, Care Management, other nursing unit and support services to include room assignments, rounds/huddles, transfers/discharges, Bed Board, and effective communication with other disciplines and departments.
- As part of unit leadership, responsible for review and implementation of the CIHQ standards in collaboration with other unit leaders, including participation in Tracers.
- Fosters interdisciplinary collaboration by chairing or serving as a representative for nursing on hospital-wide and service line committees and/or councils.
- As part of unit leadership, participates in goal setting and prioritization.
- As Charge Nurse, is responsible for human resource management including but not limited to staffing and scheduling, orientation/development, and assistance with staff selection.
- Educates and precepts new staff.
- Demonstrates competency in computer documentation when completing patient records and serves as a resource.
- Participates in fiscal management of unit, managing repair requests and follow up for broken equipment, evaluation of new equipment and daily management of schedule to insure appropriate staffing levels for volume and acuity.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
