Full Time Variable Shift

Summary

Contributes to the provision of high quality, cost-effective patient care and collaboration with other health care team members, with emphasis on designated service lines. Serves as a resource to OR buyers, OR leadership and surgeons. Oversees the organization and availability of resources necessary for procedures and utilization of appropriate supplies as it relates to specialties, for both Sierra and Main OR. Promotes team collaboration and works with surgeons through effective and consistent communication and coordination.

Required:

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

UNIT SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • One (1) year of recent cardiovascular experience

Preferred:

  • Credentialed as Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR)
  • Advanced Degree in Nursing of Bachelors of Science or higher


Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the daily function of assigned specialties.
  • To facilitate and use effective channels of communication to and from leadership and staff.
  • Monitors daily and weekly schedules to know what cases are upcoming and make sure that all necessary supplies and equipment are available for scheduled procedures.
  • Will work together with surgeons, and operating room leadership to coordinate the weekly and daily case schedule.
  • Fulfill responsibilities of an Operating Room Nurse, assist with circulation and scrubbing (if trained as needed.
  • Maintain and organize equipment, supplies and rooms for assigned specialties.
  • Be able to troubleshoot equipment and actively use available resources to facilitate repairs and maintenance.
  • Work with leadership and OR buyers to ensure surgeons are aware of backorders on supplies.
  • Work with unit educator to facilitate vendor in services and training staff on specialty equipment.
  • Create, update, and maintain preference cards.
  • Assists in writing policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a technical resource person.
  • Collaborates with supply chain liaison to maintain adequate and appropriate inventories of supplies. Identifies supply and equipment requests with physicians in specialty areas and works with leadership to secure.
  • Collaborates with SPD leader on the maintenance and turnover of instrumentation. Reviews and revises specialty instrument sets, ensuring proper weight and composition. Communicates effectively and collaboratively with OR and SPD manager, regarding changes.
  • Provides information in development of annual budget. Is a good steward of fiscal resources. Supports cost containment efforts of the hospital through conservation of supplies and care of equipment.
  • Meets regularly with each specialty surgeon to evaluate service line needs.
  • Maintains open communication among surgeons, team members, management; regarding instrument processing, storing, restocking and inventory of specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • In charge of organizing and maintaining specialty area/rooms.
  • Precepting new staff in specialty and signing off on their competencies.
  • Ability to complete essential functions outlined in Registered Nurse job description.
  • Arrange coverage of lead duties when out for PTO or other time off.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


UNIT SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Heart Lead:
    • Informing staff of scheduled hearts.
    • Making sure there is adequate coverage for cases when staff has requested off.
    • Maintain ICU heart cart.
    • Assist with planning and teaching of development programs for both CVOR team members and all Surgical Team Members.
    • Assist in safe deliverance of patient to CVU.
    • Completion of CVOR and all surgical department annual competency requirements.
  • Neuro/Ortho Lead:
    • Maintain ICU neuro cart.
    • Attend Neuro committee meetings.
    • Ensure Neuro cart in ICU has matching supplies to OR core.
  • Plastics Lead:
    • Maintain breast implant sizers and ensure ordering.
