Full Job Description
The CEM Manager works to facilitate the employees of CEM to work together to focus on the vision of SSA Terminals and accomplish the goals set annually by the Vice President for CEM. The CEM Manager serves as a key representative of company management and is accountable for safety, productivity, labor relations, and operational execution.

  • Exercises independent judgment and management authority over the hiring, assignment, direction, evaluation, discipline, and termination of assigned labor personnel, in accordance with company policy and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Responsible for leading a small office staff of SSA Terminals employees, with oversight and support of administrative processes.
  • Analyze and implement systems of efficiency to ensure that CEM has all the latest and most effective tools and equipment for the mechanics.
  • Develop chassis, container, and refrigerated container maintenance procedures and ensure implementation.
  • Responsible for the supervision of personnel to ensure that all work is accomplished in a consistent manner with organizational requirements and goals.
  • Work with staff by communicating job expectations, developing, coordinating, and implementing job policies and procedures
  • Work with the marketing team when establishing contracts.
  • Engage customers regularly to ensure satisfaction and address concerns.
  • Participate in the timely settlement of on-the-job grievances.
  • Research and implement new technologies that benefit the overall growth of the shop.
  • Collaborate with the Union on safety-related policies and procedures.
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
  • Minimize spending by eliminating overstock.
  • Analyze expenditures and other financial information to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma required. BA in Business Administration is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Manager or other managerial role.
  • Working knowledge of FMCS-controlled chassis, ISO containers, ISO reefer containers, and diesel generators.
  • Previous experience working with a strong union.
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess the skills to create metrics needed to measure work processes and commit to constant improvement with a zero-defect goal.
  • Valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) required.
