  • Lead the Global Project Team for cell therapy to execute development plans

Full Job Description
Typical Accountabilities:
• Provides expertise through global project management or by managing the Scientific Project Management function
• Inputs significantly to the regional Scientific Project Management strategy
• Provides some input to the global Project, Change, Business Improvement and Strategy Management from a Scientific Project Management perspective
• Leads, guides, evaluates and develops the team within own area of Scientific Project Management to ensure that the area achieves its objectives and complies with all relevant regulations and laws
• Performance manages senior managers or identifies development opportunities of direct reports, together with planning effectively for succession
• Leads or oversees a diverse range of initiatives to improve quality, compliance, cost or speed of projects across AstraZeneca and, where appropriate, leads the development of new methodologies or process to provide business benefit

  • Leads the GPT for cell therapy which is accountable to deliver and execute a competitive development plan in this indication.


  • Deliver critical development and commercial decisions coordinating across all GPT functions, such decisions including but not being limited to, Target Product Profile (TPP), investment decisions and agreements with the business as well as external partners.


  • Shape high level visions for the program ensuring that business requirements are met with appropriate solutions and ensure the GPT strategy is aligned with the global brand strategy across the brand's life cycle.


  • Ensure program delivery on-time and on-budget and in adherence with quality and compliance standards while assessing the requirement to adjust plans based on new competitive intelligence or scientific advances.


  • Responsible for strong partnership with other GPTs, Therapeutic Area leadership teams and strategy, and global teams across the business.


  • Additional responsibilities with the CTU Portfolio Development & Operations function as well as the broader CTU may be assigned commensurate with the level.


Essential Qualifications:

  • MBA, PharmD, PhD, M.D. strongly preferred


  • Experience in management consulting, venture capital, private equity, or finance and deep experience with clinical data and analysis preferred.


  • Expertise and experience in some areas of the drug development process, coupled with the appropriate regulatory and commercial insights


  • A deep and broad understanding of the global pharmaceutical industry and of the key value creating processes within the industry, in particular designing development strategies through all stages of development and ideally US/Global commercial launch experience


  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language and in alignment with AZ business


  • Proven track record in delivering high risk program/projects and decision making


  • Proven skills and experience of managing and controlling large budgets


  • Ability to convince and manage negotiations across a complex group


  • Fully conversant with science as it relates to the brand and broader cell therapy


  • Strong vision and excellent problem-solving skills, passionate, and have the drive to succeed


  • Entrepreneurial in the style of working and have the energy level to create and lead a group of motivated individuals


  • Ability to communicate and influence at high levels with both internal and external stakeholders


  • Proven ability to learn new information rapidly and effectively


The annual base pay for this position ranges from $251,610 to $377,415. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
