Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Battery Cell Engineer to join our innovation team. As Cell Design Technical Leader, you will play a pivotal role in the internal cell design for next generation disruptive technology battery cells. You will be responsible for designing, specifying, prototyping and testing battery cells, as well as optimizing their performance for automotive applications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancements of Stellantis electrification efforts.

MISSION:

  • Assess the disruptive technologies in cell electrochemistry for automotive application from technical performance points of view.


  • Lead relationships with different partners (academics, startups, cell manufacturers, material providers)


  • Build and disseminate the mid and long terms roadmaps for cell electrochemistry technologies and designs.


ACTIVITIES:

  • To understand, capitalize and disseminate the fundamentals of cell disruptive chemistry and various disruptive designs.
  • To scout, analyze and assess promising disruptive technologies or concepts from various sources via contracts or investment strategies (press, media, scientific publications, congress, ventures, direct contacts with suppliers, startups or academic partners).
  • To evaluate internal cell design, new cell materials & processus with dedicated experimental and/or numerical methodologies and tools, for Disruptive technologies.
  • Thanks to the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) evaluations with requiring performances assessment in virtual testing of proposed cells, including cost & LCA assessments. To process the TRL gates and deliver on time.
  • To build a set of requirements for an external cell maker, for Disruptive cells products and related processes.
  • To lead a multi-skilled team on a given cell engineering system (coordination & synthesis) according to cell design, integration and validation.
  • To participate to innovative projects that gathers all skills to design innovative cell designs.
  • To support and/or participate to cell prototyping
  • To exchange and validate results with technical advanced and core teams, expertise network and project stakeholders.
  • To arbitrate decisions on relative perimeter and to escalate major gaps that require higher level arbitration.
  • To participate to mid and long-term roadmaps for cell electrochemistry in accordance with the internal expertise networks.
  • Design tool and models for cell internal design and related new Disruptive technologies assessment. To capitalize tools, models and methods with team partners.
  • Write scientific papers and patents.
  • Manage partner relationships.
  • Propose and execute contracts with industrial and academic partners.
  • To supervise PhD student, apprentice and/or intern.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cell TRL assessment (performances, product & process, safety, LCA and cost).
  • Cell design & associated performances evaluation.
  • Technologies roadmaps with tiers #1 and #2 partner screenings.
  • To lead a multi-skilled team on a given cell engineering system (coordination & synthesis) according to cell design, integration and validation


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors in Materials Engineering or Electrochemistry
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Research or Advanced Engineering area
  • Proven experience in electrochemistry modeling and cell internal design tools
  • Experience in Disruptive cell technologies.
  • Experience in providing technical guidance and direction during supplier technical reviews.
  • Proven experience in designing and building lithium-ion battery materials and electrodes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skill to work in a cross-functional and multi-cultural team environment.
  • Fluent in English
