Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Resident Engineer for construction inspection services to oversee construction in Austin, Texas. The Resident Engineer is a full-time on-site role. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting routine inspections of civil infrastructure, identifying defects and potential hazards, and documenting contract compliance. You will also be responsible for producing detailed reports and communicating findings to management and have the primary responsibility for assuring quality of the construction.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Observes Contractor's construction activities.
  • Accepts work completed in compliance with contract documents, rejects defective work, maintains log of rejected work, assists with resolution of construction issues.
  • Coordinates with Contractor to identify upcoming work; verifies upcoming work against issued look ahead schedules.
  • Supervises project engineers for near surface and tunnelling work.
  • Reviews contract requirements, submittals, shop drawings, and other associated documentation.
  • Communicates daily with AECOM's Project Manager and Contractor's field team in execution of their duties.
  • Tracks progress of work in field. Monitors Contractor's adherence to schedule and provides input on Contractor's payment requests.
  • Inspects work for conformance with contract documents, approved change orders, clarifications, etc.; identifies and reports all nonconforming work; documents all work with daily reports, photos and videos.
  • Tracks and verifies Contractor time and material or force account work.
  • Conducts inspections to ensure that the work is performed in compliance with the contract documents.
  • Ensures delivered materials comply with approved submittals, TxDOT standards and is the correct product from approved vendors.
  • Observes and approves Contractor's testing and QA/QC activities.
  • Schedules and monitors AECOM quality assurance testing of materials.
  • Maintains necessary project documentation, including daily, weekly, and monthly reports and logs.
  • Prepares other required field documentation as necessary.
  • Provides input for construction changes. Assist with preparation and negotiation of field orders and change orders.
  • Tracking quantities installed on daily basis and prepare T&M reports as appropriate.
  • Observes implementation of health and safety procedures and practices.
  • Verifies Contractor maintenance of As-Built drawings; confirm with Contractor that this is being carried out; review look-ahead schedules. Verification that work is in accordance with the approved shop drawing and sample Submittals.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Registered professional engineer.
  • A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Health and Safety Course.
  • US citizenship is required for this role.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Registered professional engineer in Texas.
  • 10+ years of experience in Heavy Civil Construction and Construction of Tunnels.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Extensive knowledge of Texas DOT standard specifications and plan standards.
  • Knowledge and experience with Scheduling software (i.e. Microsoft Project, P6, etc), Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Basic engineering knowledge in civil works and geotechnics.
  • Experience as a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager on projects of at least $100 million.
  • Organizational ability - able to plan, prioritize, organize, and monitor activities and projects.
  • Able to work well in a group environment and foster a team approach.
  • Technical understanding of Tunnelling and Mining Construction.
  • Knowledge and experience with the manufacture of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) and one pass TBM mining with Precast Tunnel Lining segments.
  • Knowledge and experience with hard rock Sequential Excavation Methods.
  • Knowledge and experience with large diameter shaft construction using secant, liner plate, shotcrete, and rock bolt mythologies.
