Job Objectives

This position is responsible for supporting the Global Reinsurance Officer in the oversight and execution of successful treaty placements tailored to global commercial casualty lines of business. Review existing treaty structures and recommend alternative structures and areas where integration would be accretive to the organization.  The role partners closely with the global commercial casualty underwriting teams, ensuring that reinsurance strategies and program structures are aligned with underwriting targets and enterprise risk management objectives. Additional responsibilities include coordination of facultative reinsurance strategies and controls relevant to casualty exposures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Global Reinsurance Officer, Global Commercial Casualty Underwriting, Actuarial, Claims, and Operations teams to review reinsurance requirements for casualty portfolios and analyze alternative structure options that support underwriting and risk management objectives.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with reinsurance brokers and markets specializing in commercial casualty risks, facilitating treaty and facultative placement, supporting contract wording review, timely claims handling, and market intelligence gathering.
  • Work in partnership with Global Commercial Casualty Underwriting, Finance, Actuarial, and Claims to collect and analyze data, risk profiles, loss history, and submission information relevant to casualty reinsurance placements.
  • Liaise with Legal and Global commercial casualty underwriting teams to draft and review treaty wordings, ensuring compliance with company standards and current regulatory requirements for casualty exposures.
  • Evaluate treaty reinsurance quotations and participate in negotiations specific to commercial casualty risks and exposures, ensuring placements are in line with the company’s risk appetite and business goals.
  • Coordinate the availability and accuracy of documents necessary for claims, underwriting, transactional, and ceded reinsurance audits, including those conducted by external auditors, with a focus on commercial casualty treaties.
  • Track and manage execution of contract wordings to completion and maintain well-organized electronic records, particularly for casualty treaties.
  • Prepare and summarize treaty terms, limits, retentions, placements, and schematic diagrams specific to commercial casualty program structures.
  • Maintain reinsurance resume documentation that catalogs historical treaty placements, terms, limits, and loss activity for commercial casualty portfolios.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the commercial casualty (re)insurance market, changes in litigation/regulatory environment, and best practices around casualty risk management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in reinsurance or insurance, with a focus on commercial casualty underwriting strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to convey technical and complex information clearly and effectively to underwriting and reinsurance stakeholders.
  • Strong negotiation skills, particularly in treaty and facultative transactions related to commercial casualty exposures.
  • High degree of attention to detail, with robust quantitative and analytical abilities pertaining to casualty risk assessment and loss modeling.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines within a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborative working style, able to build strong relationships with underwriting, claims, actuarial, finance, IT, and legal teams.
  • Willingness to work extended hours during renewal periods and as business needs dictate.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Starr Insurance Companies is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is up to $250,000.
