CBRNE Project Manager. This position is a full-time opportunity located in the
Washington, DC Metro Area.Battelle's Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Defense business line is seeking an experienced CBRNE Project Manager to lead a team providing direct customer support at a client facility. The selected candidate will be responsible for full project lifecycle management, including project plan development and implementation, cost and schedule control, performance management, and client relationship stewardship.
This role offers the opportunity to lead high-impact programs at the intersection of science, technology, and national security, working closely with government clients and cross-functional teams to deliver mission-critical results.
Responsibilities As a CBRNE Project Manager, the selected individual will lead complex, high-value programs in direct support of government clients. Responsibilities may include:
- Lead development and refinement of the program Work Breakdown Structure, define project requirements, and direct estimation of project costs across all elements of cost, schedule, and technical performance
- Build and sustain strong client relationships, proactively communicate progress, and identify high-growth opportunities to position Battelle for follow-on programs
- Collaborate with Business Development staff to establish proposal strategies, differentiate Battelle's offerings, and support selection of teaming partners and subcontractors
- Manage cost, schedule, and performance; implement change management and control; and apply Earned Value Management (EVM) to analyze variances and drive corrective action
- Recruit, develop, and continuously assess a high-performing project team, structuring work to leverage individual strengths toward shared goals
- Direct project risk planning, including identification, classification, prioritization, and mitigation strategy development
- Support contract negotiation activities, maintaining working knowledge of contractual issues related to scope, schedule, and subcontracts
- Support administrative tasks including preparation and delivery of project reviews and updates to internal management and external customers
- Ensure compliance with applicable government and industry regulations, quality systems, and Battelle processes and procedures
Key Qualifications - Bachelor's or Master's degree (Master's preferred) in life science, chemistry, physics, or a mathematical discipline from an accredited institution, with at least 10 years of project management experience
- Proven experience leading technical research, business development, and marketing programs valued at $10M+ annually, requiring coordination across organizational lines and technical disciplines
- Knowledge of government and industrial contract work, including experience leading proposal teams and working with fixed price, cost-plus, and time-and-materials contract types
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be a U.S. citizen with an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
Preferred Qualifications - Experience establishing EVM strategies and applying EVM analysis to support timely, cost-effective program delivery
- Experience managing multiple subcontractors under Federal government prime contracts
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Familiarity with Battelle's organizational structure, including the relationships, roles, missions, and responsibilities of different business groups
Compensation Data Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $170,000 - $225,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
