Overview

Your primary responsibility is to serve as a snacking category expert at Target and Frito-Lay. As Category Captain for Chips and Multipack, you will lead with objective, data-driven insights that elevates the total snacking aisle - from POG development, assortment architecture, and shelf space allocation to insight development, reporting, and business performance storytelling. You will:
  • Lead end-to-end Category Captaincy for Chips and Multipack at Target, acting as an objective advisor to Target Buyers and delivering POG, assortment, and space strategies grounded in consumer and shopper truth.
  • Own planogram development and management - from data-driven shelf architecture and space allocation recommendations through the full Target POG building and submission process.
  • Serve as a foremost resource on the snacking landscape - synthesizing macro consumer trends, health and wellness shifts, permissible indulgence patterns, emerging segment growth, and competitive dynamics into a forward-looking point of view.
  • Advise across the broader snacks category, identifying white space opportunities, cross-segment dynamics, and assortment gaps that give Target a sustainable competitive advantage in the snacking aisle.
  • Support Store-level POG execution through partnering across Frito's regional DSD network to identify solutions and foster executional partnerships

Your secondary responsibilities include leveraging multiple data sources to gain a deep understanding of consumer and shopper behavior across products, geographies, cohorts, and occasions - driving Target's snacking learning agenda and informing category planning.

Responsibilities

As a Category Manager within the North American Insights & Intelligence organization, you will serve as the leading voice on snacking at Target and a Category Captaincy lead for the POG-building process. You will be required to:
  • Lead planogram development and manage Target's POG submission process for Chips and Multipack - leveraging AI and automation tools to drive POG-build efficiency and deliver next-level shelf recommendations grounded in shopper and category data.
  • Track and synthesize key trends shaping the snacking landscape - including consumer macro shifts, permissible snacking, on-the-go formats, value tier dynamics, and emerging segment growth - translating these into strategic category guidance and line review recommendations.
  • Develop category reviews and assortment recommendations that reflect a total-category perspective across snack segments, incorporating syndicated data (Circana, NielsenIQ, Panel), shopper insights, and competitive intelligence into a clear, compelling narrative.
  • Develop insight-based reporting, seasonal program assessments, and assortment impact studies that translate performance trends into actionable recommendations
  • Stay ahead of industry developments, retail innovation, AI-enabled category management capabilities, and best practices - continuously building expertise that strengthens Target's position in snacking.
  • Partner cross-functionally with key stakeholders.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $110,700 - $185,250.

  • Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 15% of annual salary paid out annually.
  • Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; MBA a plus.
  • 5+ years of Category Management or Insights experience within the consumer packaged goods industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Category Captaincy, category advisor, or POG-building responsibilities at Target is strongly preferred; comparable experience with other large-format retailers will be considered.
  • Hands-on experience with JDA Space Planning Software; familiarity with automated space planning tools such as ShelfIQ is a strong plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience analyzing and interpreting syndicated data, including Circana, NielsenIQ, panel data, and customer POS platforms such as RSI and VendorIQ.
  • Experience with, or strong desire to quickly adopt, AI-enabled tools such as Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT to accelerate insight development, improve organization, and enhance efficiency in analysis and communication.
  • Demonstrated analytical and thought leadership skills with the ability to present category-level recommendations with conviction to buyers and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills - able to interact confidently and effectively with Target Buyers and cross-functional partners.
  • Strong PC skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Highly collaborative; able to work across account teams, cross-functional partners, and the retailer directly.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills; ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced retail environment.
