Description:Your opportunity:Working under the general direction of the Director, Student Experience, the OSSC & Career Coordinator is responsible for the smooth operation of the OISE Student Success Centre (OSSC). The incumbent hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises graduate student Teaching Assistants who serve as OSSC Advisors, including assigning workload and scheduling the Advisors. The incumbent coordinates OSSC activities including organizing team meetings and student workshops, addressing student concerns, monitoring student needs, and proposing initiatives to continuously improve the OSSC's services to OISE students. The Coordinator promotes the OSSC to the OISE community, including developing marketing and communications strategies and materials. The Coordinator develops and implements evaluation measures to assess program efficiency and student learning outcomes and to inform future initiatives.
The Coordinator is responsible for providing employment services, including developing relationships with employers and building partnerships with faculty, staff and the University community, and various school boards, federations and schools. The incumbent develops and organizes Career/Employment Fairs and other career-related events for OISE students. Responsibilities include selecting speakers/facilitators/trainers; coordinating exhibitors; maintaining a budget for events; reviewing the effectiveness of programs and events; and managing student staffing.
The Coordinator advises students on career-related matters, including employment options, job search and networking strategies, cover letter and resume development, and interview preparation. The incumbent develops and presents resume and cover letter workshops, conducts one-on-one student resume/cover letter sessions, advises students on career opportunities, and creates and maintains career resources.
The Coordinator serves as a back-up to the Assistant Director, Student Experience and Student Success Counsellor as needed.
Your responsibilities will include:- Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
- Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
- Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
- Identifying, fostering and maintaining relationships with potential and existing employers
- Advising students on co-curricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
- Screening and making referrals to academic advising and learning skills programs and other resources or services
- Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students
- Training and coaching student life staff and student leaders
Essential Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four years experience in career advising graduate students in an academic environment.
- Minimum four years experience with graduate academic advising and communication in an academic setting or similar academic environment.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating and executing small to major events involving multiple stakeholders such as, conferences, receptions, and workshops.
- Demonstrated experience supervising, hiring, training, and supporting student/Teaching Assistant (TA) advisors.
- Ability to create a welcoming environment for students and provide excellent customer service.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical skills, professional manner, tact, diplomacy, ability to work well with all levels of faculty, staff and students.
- Effective, professional oral and written communication skills.
- Accuracy and initiative in handling multiple priorities. Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
- Experience with MS Office.
