Position DescriptionThe Cardiovascular Perfusionist functions in a highly specialized pediatric environment. In this role, the Cardiovascular Perfusionist contributes to clinical, education and research practices in perfusion.
Here's what you'll get to do- Contribute to clinical, education and research practices in Perfusion by providing extracorporeal life support to patients requiring the use of cardiopulmonary bypass, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) or ventricular assist devices
- Provide patients with temporary support of cardiac and/or respiratory systems in critical care settings
- Participate in inter-hospital ECMO initiation and transportation of patients supported on ECMO
- Act as a perfusion resource and provide clinical support to non-cardiac service areas, including orthopedic and general surgery
- Integrate new knowledge and research into clinical practice in collaboration with the interdisciplinary health care team
- Provide and share knowledge with patient and families, the public and other professionals internal and external to SickKids
Here's what you'll need - Graduate of an Accredited Perfusion Program
- Hold a minimum of an undergraduate baccalaureate degree
- Current certification in good standing by the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion and American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or eligible for same
- Continuing Education Required: Continuing education units (CEUs) are obtained by attending scientific perfusion meetings (local, national and/or international), presenting and publishing. This activity is necessary to maintain mandatory annual re-certification with the above organizations.
- Experience in Perfusion. Pediatric Perfusion experience is an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Capability of critical thinking and making independent decisions with appropriate responses
- Demonstrated ability to function with confidence under stress in an interdisciplinary care model
