Summary of responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Child and Youth Mental Health Services, the Addiction & Mental Health Therapist (Therapist) works collaboratively with individuals who are experiencing significant addiction, mental health and concurrent disorders that affect their functioning at home, school/work and/or in the community. The Therapist will offer support, counselling and psychotherapy to clients and their caregivers, utilizing a variety of clinical methodologies in individual or group settings. As part of their responsibilities, the Therapist will provide collaborative treatment to children and adolescents of families involved with the Children's Aid Society. The Therapist will also conduct consultations with caregivers and other professionals. The Therapist is responsible for managing the clients' file and developing collaborative care plans along with performing some intake duties, ongoing assessments, psychotherapy, and treatment referral. The Therapist delivers a range of specialized mental health therapy services and participates in other requirements of the organization. The Addiction and Mental Health Therapist may be required to do presentations inside and outside the organization.

Requirements of the job
• Four (4) year university degree in social sciences
• Registered with an Ontario College whose members are authorized to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy
• Minimum three (3) years working experience delivering a range of psychotherapy interventions with youth experiencing significant symptoms of mental health
• Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
• Received training, and has experience providing evidence-based treatment to address mental and substance use health, such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or therapies that address trauma.
• Ability to be organized and autonomous, and have good team-work capabilities
• Ability to engage with vulnerable children, youth and their families
• Ability to provide psychotherapeutic or counselling intervention in-office or in the community
• Use case conceptualization to inform treatment planning
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Good computer skills
• Knowledge of community agencies
• Valid driver's license and access to own vehicle
• Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
• Functional proficiency in English (oral and written)
• Valid CPR certification

Assets:
• Functional level in French (oral and written)
• Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017
