Job Description

In this position...

The subsystem consists of the central BLE/UWB control module (BLEM/BUN) and a range of BLE/UWB/NFC antennas (BLEAMs/UWB Anchors), used globally across Ford and Lincoln nameplate vehicles. The primary feature these modules support is Phone As a Key (PaaK), along with additional features such as intrusion detection, Key Fob, Tire Pressure Monitoring, and OTA updates.

The BLEM/BUN communicates with the antennas via dedicated LIN or private CAN-FD, with smartphones via BLE/UWB, and with other vehicle ECUs - including the Body Control Module, Telematics Control Module, SYNC Control Module, backend cloud, and other feature-specific modules - via CAN/CAN-FD.

  • Define and validate BLE/UWB/NFC and wireless requirements (Phone As A Key, TPMS, Key Fob) across the ECU and antennas, and ensure the subsystem design supports all expected customer use cases.
  • Evaluate wireless performance against requirements through simulation, bench, and vehicle-level validation, and present results to the broader team.
  • Support RF/wireless implementation, certification (FCC, CCC, CE, etc.), and verification at supplier facilities, bench, and End of Line.
  • Drive resolution of complex RF/wireless and intersystem issues involving BLE modules, other vehicle systems, phone apps, and off-board systems.
  • Partner with suppliers and internal teams on system design reviews, PCB/EMC reviews, and quality analysis to ensure interfaces meet requirements.
  • Collaborate with the broader BLE/UWB subsystem team (hardware, software, verification), support program milestones/PATs, and assist with vehicle launches (occasional travel may be required).
