The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff is currently seeking applicants to fill a CALEA Manager (Administrative Specialist 1G) position, grade G29, in the Bureau of Professional Accountability / Planning and Research

About the Position

This is a high level, professional, and administrative work in planning and program development and coordination within a division. Incumbent is this position performs third level supervisory regulatory law enforcement work as specified by State Law, directing the daily activities and functions of a major division of the Office of the Sheriff. Duties are performed with wide latitude for independent judgment within established laws, regulations and agency policies. Complex and difficult work in planning and program development and coordination of major programs or plans are performed. This class must appropriately interpret and apply established guidelines that are often vague, outdated or conflicting; address past precedents and practices, must be resourceful and innovative in the formation of their work. The position maintains thorough knowledge of Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) standards.

OFFICE OF THE SHERIFF ACCREDITATION MANAGER
  • Coordinates all Departmental Accreditation activities to ensure compliance with all applicable standards.

PLANNING, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

  • The Planning, Research and Development Division is primarily responsible for creating, revising and modifying Agency policy contained in the Agency's General Orders Manual (GOM), managing the Agency accreditation program, and researching and planning strategic initiatives.
  • Researches need for new or amended General Orders and Special Orders.
  • Develops long- and short-range plans, including operational and administrative plans.


AGENCY CONTINUITY OF OPERATIONS COORDINATOR
  • Develops and maintains the agency's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP).
  • Coordinates with senior agency personnel and COOP coordinators from other agencies for COOP related matters.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES, PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Plans, assigns and supervises designated bureau activities to ensure activities are conducted within the scope of the departmental administrative policies, orders, rules, regulations, procedures and guidelines.


COMMUNICATION AND LIAISON

  • Maintains effective liaison with Office of the Sheriff personnel, other allied agencies and members of the County Government.
  • Transfers thoughts, ideas, concepts and facts to others through written and oral communications.
  • Keeps the Assistant Sheriff, Chief-Bureau of Administration informed of current activities, the results of programs and contemporary ideas that may be beneficial.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited College or University in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in governmental activities which must include at least six (6) months of CALEA accreditation process experience.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
