  • Create 2D harness schematics and layout drawings for manufacturing.

Full Job Description
The Cable Harness Engineer for Voyager Lunar Systems is responsible for designing wiring harness assemblies for lunar landers and other flight vehicles that will survive harsh environmental conditions.

The position reports to the Electronic Systems Manager and is part of Voyager Lunar Systems based in Pittsburgh, PA. This role is hybrid based in Pittsburgh, PA.

In this role, the essential functions are:
  • Design wiring harness assemblies for lunar landers and other flight vehicles that will survive harsh environmental conditions.
  • Ensure compatibility of all wiring harness components.
  • Perform accurate bend radii checks, voltage drop analysis, and harness mass calculations
  • Execute parts standardization, and resolving issues with connectors, backshells, shielding and associated parts.
  • Connector selection, including Mil-Spec and high-reliability interconnect types
  • Defining design parameters including twisting, shielding, and gauge selection
  • Create 2D harness schematics and harness layout drawings for in-house harness manufacturing team and/or external vendors.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of wiring harness design experience for a military, aerospace, or space application
  • Prior experience manufacturing wiring harnesses for a military, aerospace, or space application
  • A.A. or B.S. or related experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and experience with DWV, Hi-Pot, and IR testing
  • Knowledge of NASA-STD-8739.4A and AS50881
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-461G or equivalent experience designing and testing harnesses for EMI compliance
  • Experience with Solidworks and Solidworks Electrical or equivalent (Zuken, AutoCAD, CREO, etc.)
  • Existing or prior certification to IPC/WHMA-A-620 and experience inspecting to Class 3
  • 3D Harness modelling experience
  • Knowledge of space environmental tests (e.g. TVAC, Shock/Vibration, and EMI testing)
  • B.S. Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering

Travel, Physical, and/or Government Mandated Requirements:
  • Travel up to 10%
  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) (22 CFR Parts 120-130) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) (15 CFR Parts 730-774), applicants for this position must be a U.S. Person: a US Citizen, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. a7 1324b(a)(3). Applicants must be eligible to obtain any required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce.
