Position Summary

The Project Director provides oversight and coordination of high-profile and/or complex projects/programs and the corresponding project team members. They are responsible for the overall project management quality and client experience of assigned projects. The Project Director trains, mentors and provides senior leadership to project team members.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities

Project/Program Management

  • Observes performance of project managers and provides coaching, mentoring and constructive feedback.


  • Oversees overall project quality within their sector, including communication around strategies and opportunities and acting as a resource to all Project Managers.


  • Performs a range of project/program management responsibilities in collaboration with Project Managers.


  • Guides Project Managers in identifying and incorporating project stakeholder values into project execution and communication plan and developing strategic project goals and objectives.


  • Provides subject matter expertise on project execution and technical input on project production.


  • Supports Project Managers with identifying and mitigating risk throughout the life cycle of the project and managing project financial performance.


  • Champions the project value with internal stakeholders.


Professional Engineer & Engineer of Record

(where applicable)

  • Consistently performs to a higher standard of industry-wide expectations associated with carrying a PE license and being enabled as an Engineer of Record (EOR), including making reasonable engineering decisions and delivering the highest quality of work and accountability to projects.


  • May be enabled as an Engineer of Record, having additional involvement, oversight, responsibility and accountability for the overall signing and sealing of projects.


Business Development

  • Leads the development, establishment and maintenance of relationships with strategic partners and customers in support of and to expand business opportunities.


  • Participates in client, company and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.


Client Experience

  • Serves as a corporate leadership level contact for projects/programs as needed.


  • Partners with sector and practice leadership to develop quality and client satisfaction strategies and metrics.


  • Partners with Project Managers to create and maintain client communication strategies that deliver a consistent client experience.


  • Ensures their sector's overall quality and client satisfaction standards are met.


Leadership

  • Fosters an engaged and dynamic project team culture.


  • Proactively advises, coaches and mentors less experienced Designers, Engineers and/or Project Managers across teams or practices, providing oversight and guidance on technical and project execution and communication.


  • Partners with sector leadership to establish and implement goals, policies, objectives standards and strategies related to project management at the sector and/or practice level.


  • Acts as an escalation resource to resolve project-related conflicts involving owners, architects and contractors as needed.


  • Supports sector and practice leadership by demonstrating and advocating for project management quality and standards across project teams.

Required Education, Experience, Licenses & Technical Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, science, technology, or business preferred. 4 years of relevant experience within the AEC or Professional Services industry will be considered in lieu of requisite education.


  • 20 years of relevant experience required, including a minimum of 16 years cumulative of project management experience


  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in project management standards and execution required


  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge and application of building design and construction principles required


  • Project management certification preferred


  • PE license preferred


  • Self-starter with the ability to influence and motivate others to achieve goals


  • Proven track record of effective collaboration, communication and maintaining effective relationships with project stakeholders over time


Physical & Other Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.


  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
