Your Opportunity:

Established in 1978, the Banting & Best Diabetes Centre (BBDC) is an extra-departmental unit within the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto dedicated to advancing diabetes research, education, and knowledge exchange. Through funding programs, educational initiatives, scientific events, and partnerships across the University and its affiliated hospitals, the Centre supports innovation and collaboration aimed at improving diabetes-related health outcomes locally and internationally.

The BBDC is a small but impactful unit, and as the Business Manager, you will serve as its primary administrative and financial resource. Within the Centre's small administrative structure, you will lead and execute a wide range of daily operations, including budgeting and financial administration, funding programs, committee activities, scientific and educational events, communications, website content, reports, newsletters, and other related administrative processes.

Working closely with the Director, committee chairs, and internal and external partners, you will help support informed decision-making, responsible stewardship of resources, and the smooth coordination of Centre activities. Through your acute financial acumen, sound judgment, exceptional organizational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities, you will contribute to the effective functioning of a specialized academic centre.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in business, economics, financial management, or related discipline, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum four (4) years of recent and related experience in business and financial administration
  • Experience with financial management, including experience with budget planning and monitoring, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Experience processing financial transactions, including procurement, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • Experience processing payroll entries and supporting payroll administration
  • Experience developing, documenting, and implementing administrative procedures and processes
  • Experience administering research funding programs, grants, or awards
  • Experience conceptualizing, planning and executing events
  • Experience supporting committees and meetings, including scheduling meetings, taking minutes, and tracking follow-up items
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and SharePoint) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficiency with virtual meeting platforms, including Microsoft Teams and Zoom
  • Advanced proficiency using enterprise administrative management systems (e.g., Financial Information System (FIS), Human Resources Information System (HRIS), Concur, etc.), and comparable systems
  • Advanced proficiency with website content management systems, such as WordPress
  • Advanced proficiency with email marketing platforms, such as MailChimp
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with sound judgment, professionalism, tact, and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters
  • Strong administrative, analytical, financial, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply information, provide financial analysis, demonstrate initiative, and manage competing priorities
