Purpose: The Business Manager is a strategic and operational leader responsible for the financial performance, operational excellence, and growth of the Surgical and Invasive Cardiology service lines. This role partners closely with clinical and physician leaders to optimize access, throughput, quality, safety, patient experience, and margin, while ensuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and corporate requirements. The Business Manager leads budgeting and forecasting, capital planning, revenue cycle optimization, productivity management, and analytics-driven decision-making across both service lines.

What you will do:

1) Financial Management & Strategy

  • Collaborates with leadership providing input as requested on capital budgets and annual budgets.
  • Monitors and improves service line margin, contribution, and cost-per-case; drives expense management (labor, implants, devices, disposables) and case profitability.
  • Partners with Finance and Revenue Cycle on charge capture, preference card accuracy, late charge reduction, denial prevention/appeals, and payer contract stewardship.
  • Develops business cases/ROI for new procedures, technology, and program development (e.g., robotics, navigation, hybrid OR, structural heart expansion).
  • Oversees implant/device utilization and standardization, vendor agreements/contracts, and pricing optimization in collaboration with Supply Chain/Contracts.
  • Utilizes Icertis for contracts and participates in new product requests.

2) Operational Excellence & Throughput

  • Collaborates with schedulers for optimal case scheduling (OR, Cath, EP, Structural), template design, and access management; supports surge plans and after-hours call coverage coordination.
  • Partners with SPD and Supply Chain to ensure instrument readiness, tray optimization, and inventory availability, minimizing case delays.

3) Quality, Safety, and Compliance

  • Participates with leadership on operational readiness for Joint Commission, CMS, state, and specialty-specific requirements (e.g., NCDR, STS, ACC accreditation).
  • Oversees UDI/implant tracking, recall management, and documentation integrity in EHR and inventory systems.
  • Partners with registry and quality teams on data completeness, abstraction timeliness, and performance improvement.

4) Data, Analytics, & Technology

  • Builds and maintains huddle boards and scorecards for access, quality, finance, and efficiency (e.g., on time starts, turnover, block/utilization, cancellations, D2B, case mix, implant spend).
  • Leverages EHR and perioperative/cardiology systems (e.g., Epic OpTime/Anesthesia/Cupid or equivalents) to improve documentation, throughput, and revenue capture.
  • Translates data into insights and action plans.

5) Physician & Program Development

  • Partners with physician leaders to optimize block governance and align capacity with demand; coordinates new surgeon onboarding and ramp plans.
  • Develops and executes growth strategies (e.g., robotics, complex EP, structural heart/TAVR/Mitra Clip/Watchman, ambulatory surgery expansion).
  • Coordinates marketing and referral development with Strategy/Business Development teams; monitors market share and access.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Health Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in hospital/health system operations or finance, with direct exposure to perioperative and/or invasive cardiology operations.
  • Demonstrated success in budget management, productivity, cost reduction, and margin improvement.
  • Proficiency with EHR and perioperative/cardiology applications (e.g., Epic OpTime/Anesthesia/Cupid, Cerner/Oracle equivalents) and financial/analytics tools (Excel/Tableau).
  • Strong skills in project management, vendor negotiation, contract review, and capital planning.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and physician partnership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MHSA, or related).
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or PMP certification.
  • Experience with registries (NCDR, STS), Cath/EP/OR inventory systems, and block governance.
