DESCRIPTIONThe full salary range for this position is as follows: Business License Coordinator I - $37.25 to $47.55 / Business License Coordinator II - $41.07 to $52.42/ Sr. Business License Coordinator $45.27- $57.80/ Supervising Business License Coordinator- $52.42-$66.85. Expected hiring range is as follows: Business License Coordinator I - $37.25-$41.07/ Business License Coordinator II - $41.07-$45.27/ Sr. Business License Coordinator $45.27- $49.93/ Supervising Business License Coordinator- $52.42-$57.80. DESCRIPTIONThe Coordinator performs responsible professional analytical, administrative, and technical assistance in the development, administration, and implementation of department or division programs; provides highly responsible administrative staff assistance including conducting research and analyses of a wide scope of items, procedures, and budgeting as it relates to the department and or division.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:This is a full journey-level classification. Positions at this level perform the full range of duties, tasks and responsibilities assigned with only minimal instruction or assistance. Assignments may vary from general support of the supervisor, or manager, to specialized support in a technical area. Incumbents are expected to perform independently and under general supervision and are reviewed for the result of product. They are thoroughly familiar with the operating procedures of the section assigned, and possess technical expertise related to the assigned programmatic responsibilities.
Coordinator I
This entry level class of the series is distinguished from level II by routine and repetitive duties performed according to established procedures. Incumbents are closely supervised in their initial assignments. As they gain experience, incumbents will work more independently in routine work.
Coordinator II
Working under general supervision, the position is the journey level in the series. Employees at this level require specific experience and less supervision and review to complete assignments. Positions are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower level, or if filled from the outside, require prior related experience.
Senior Coordinator
Positions at this level perform the most difficult duties; possess a specialized technical or functional expertise. Incumbents are assigned significant responsibilities above the advanced journey level, possess specialized knowledge, abilities, skills and experience, and exercise independent judgment and initiative in the performance of their duties. Positions in this class may be flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Coordinator II class.
Supervising Coordinator
The fully experienced classification in the Coordinator series. Under general direction, supervises, assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for the maintenance of the department or division; participates in activities related to determining project priorities; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and performs the most technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The supervisor-level position may be filled either through open internal recruitment as a promotional opportunity or through a full external recruitment process. Lower levels are not flexibly staffed into the supervisor-level position.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Essential and other important responsibilities and functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Coordinator I/II/ Senior
- Compose correspondence and other public information documents for the department.
- Establish and maintain systems related to the assigned technical areas of responsibility; monitor area activities and report progress, as required; and manage software programs.
- Give out information in person or by telephone where judgment, common knowledge, and interpretation of departmental and City policies and regulations are necessary; provide customer and public assistance.
- Research, compile, analyze, and develop information for projects, and reports from a variety of resources. Assist in formulating program policy, goals, and procedures; and collect and compile relevant data supporting recommendations.
- Prepare and administer contracts.
- Represent the City, as assigned, on various boards, commissions, and committees.
- Respond to, and resolve, difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
- Respond to complaints and/or requests for information about rules, regulations, procedures, and policies related to assigned responsibilities.
- Assist in developing an assigned budget; track or reconcile expenditures; maintain logs and inventories, ledgers and statistical records as assigned; and, compile routine budget information.
- Process business license and permit applications, to include the identification of the type of request, review of application, computation of fees and issuance of license or permit.
- Maintain computerized record keeping of completed/issued business licenses and permits.
- Maintain and process detailed financial records, reports, and warrants.
- Perform the business license renewal activity, including the mailing of notices and receiving the payments.
- Coordinate the issuing of permits with appropriate agencies, City offices and enforcement organizations.
- Receive fireworks applications; determine if applicant qualifies under municipal code requirement; receives and receipts deposits, and issues refunds; educates applicants about regulations governing operating a fireworks booth.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two to four years of increasingly responsible administrative, accounting or business experience that involves extensive public contact, preferably related to department or division.
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Licenses/Certifications/Other Requirements:Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license by the time of appointment.
Desired qualifications, possession of, or ability to obtain within the first twelve months, the Certified Revenue Officer through the California Municipal Revenue and Tax Association.
