What You'll Do
Are you passionate about turning data into compelling, actionable insights that drive smarter business decisions? As a Business Intelligence Engineer II, you'll play a key role in designing and delivering high-impact analytics and reporting solutions. You'll collaborate closely with data engineers, business partners, and stakeholders to build intuitive visualizations using Microsoft's Business Intelligence (BI) toolset. This role sits within a team dedicated to advancing data-driven decision-making across the firm, combining technical expertise with a strong understanding of business needs.
• Dashboard Development: Design, build, and test impactful Microsoft Power BI dashboards with a strong focus on user interface (UI) and user experience (UX).
• Requirements Translation: Gather and document business and technical requirements, transforming them into scalable reporting and visualization solutions.
• Data Collaboration: Partner with data engineers to define architecture and ensure reliable, efficient data pipelines for analytics applications.
• End-to-End Delivery: Support all phases of development, from analysis and design to implementation and optimization.
• Standards & Best Practices: Help define and uphold standards for dashboard development, testing, access management, and data refresh processes.
• Performance & Reliability: Monitor and maintain application performance, ensuring availability and a seamless user experience.
• Data Governance: Ensure compliance with organizational policies around data governance, risk management, and security.
• User Enablement: Promote adoption of BI tools by empowering business users and championing data-driven decision-making.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend enhancements to optimize BI processes, reporting standards, and data structures.
• Cross-Functional Support: Support report writers and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams to meet evolving business needs.
• Operational Excellence: Work with operational support teams to maintain a healthy, efficient reporting environment in an agile setting.
What You'll Bring
• Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in reporting, data analytics, or business intelligence development.
Required
• Power BI Expertise: Proven ability to design, develop, and maintain Microsoft Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Data & Technical Skills: Advanced Transact-SQL (T-SQL) skills, strong understanding of database design, and experience with relational and dimensional data models.
• Visualization & Storytelling: Strong grasp of data visualization best practices and the ability to communicate insights effectively.
• Data Security Knowledge: Familiarity with data security concepts such as row-level security and governance controls.
• Collaboration & Communication: Ability to manage stakeholder interactions, gather requirements, and build strong working relationships.
• Tools & Technologies: Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Microsoft Report Builder, and Microsoft Visual Studio; familiarity with Qlik and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is a plus.
• Adaptability: Comfort working with diverse data sources in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Mindset: Self-starter who is organized, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality, impactful solutions.
Preferred
• Bonus Experience: Exposure to server administration, master data management practices, or delivering BI solutions within a legal environment is a plus.

Compensation
The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position in Chicago. This range may differ based on your geographic location and cost of living considerations. At Kirkland & Ellis, we consider compensation more than just a base salary. Compensation Range:
Chicago: $101,000 - $144,000
