Job Summary
The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is responsible for the development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of organizational data sets and reports. The BI Developer will work closely across departments to develop dashboards that meet the needs of the various internal and external stakeholders.

Working with cross-functional teams, the BI Developer will support in gathering, clarifying, and documenting report requirements, making recommendations, identifying relevant data points, and educating when necessary to meet business needs.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for driving creative, technology-based solutions to address homelessness. They will be a creative thinker who is passionate not only about data and dashboards but also about the homeless service landscape or other social service landscape and is eager to design products to move the industry forward to help house more individuals.

Essential Job Functions

  • Dashboard Creation
    • Build useful, well-designed dashboards in Tableau, liaising with programs, systems, government affairs, and finance teams as necessary to scope and collect business requirements.
    • Update dashboards, be responsive to change requests and ensure dashboards are always operating with full functionality.
    • Explore and keep abreast with emerging BI technologies and best practices that support or enhance the team's processes, tools, and capabilities.
    • Participate in meetings with cross-functional teams to gather required reporting and dashboard requirements.
  • Dataset Creation, maintenance, and documentation
    • Curate datasets and ensure there are documented procedures and guidelines for data access.
    • Build, maintain, and update datasets dependent on the needs of internal and external stakeholders
    • Support standardization of datasets and data metrics used across queries, reports, dashboards, and data feeds.
  • Serve as an expert in Homeless service data
    • Analyze business requirements and functional specifications for technical implementation(SSRS reports, dashboards, data services, etc.).
    • Be a resource for how homeless service data is collected, stored, and analyzed.
    • Compile and update documentation for all datasets, dashboards, processes and any other work assigned.
  • Think critically to review business operations, identify opportunities for improvement and collaborate with internal departments and stakeholders to complete requests.
  • Provide technical assistance and cross-training to other team members.
  • Assist in assembling complex ideas, issues and observations into useful explanations and clear directions for the team.
  • Complete other duties as needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by LAHSA's values.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Passion for working on creative, technology forward solutions to address homelessness
  • Familiarity with SSBI tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, PowerPivot), preferably Tableau
  • Intermediate of T-SQL, SSRS, SSIS, SQL Server Data Tools, andSQL Server ManagementStudio.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of SSAS, HMIS, CHAMP, Looker preferred
  • Experience working with homeless service provider or other social service provider, preferred
  • Experience with communicating directly with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and tune complex stored procedures, queries, views, user-defined functions, cursors and common tableexpressions.

Training & Experience

  • BA/BS in data science, business administration or related field is strongly preferred; however, an equivalent combination of applicable training and experience will be considered.
  • Master's degree in Public Policy, Social Work, Business Administration, or related field, preferred.

Schedule: The Chief Executive Officer or designee may change the schedule of positions between hybrid and onsite, as necessary to accomplish LAHSA's business needs.
Additional Information: LAHSA has adopted a hybrid telework policy requiring employees to work onsite at our Los Angeles office a minimum of two (2) days per week. Applicants must be able to meet this onsite requirement, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

LAHSA offers this voluntary supplemental insurance to all full-time employees. Most premiums are pre taxed and paid 100% by the employee through automatic bi-monthly payroll deductions.

ADP Flexible Spending Accounts
LAHSA offers employees this voluntary flexible spending account plan through ADP Workforce. Employees may elect to participate in dependent care or health care expense accounts. All premiums are pre-taxed and paid 100% by the employee through automatic bimonthly payroll deductions.

Life Insurance
LAHSA pays 100% of the premium for $50,000 basic life insurance coverage through ADP.

Voluntary Group Life Insurance
LAHSA offers employees this voluntary group life insurance through Lincoln Financial. Employees may elect to participate in dependent care or health care expense accounts. All premiums are pre-taxed and paid 100% by the employee through automatic bimonthly payroll deductions.

Long Term Disability
LAHSA pays 100% of the premium for long term disability coverage through ADP.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program Eligibility
LAHSA is considered a government employer for the PSLF Program.

Pension Plan
LAHSA provides a 401A pension plan through Lincoln Financial. After 6 months of employment, employees are eligible for contributions of 6% of the employee's salary with a qualification date of 500 hours or 6 months after the date of hire.

Deferred Compensation Plan
LAHSA provides a 457 Deferred Compensation plan through Lincoln Financial. Employees may elect to defer up to IRS maximum limit per year of their earned salary for income tax purposes.

Time Off Administrative Leave
Chief Executive Officer, chiefs, and directors receive five (5) days of admin leave each calendar year in addition to the time-off below.

Vacation
Vacation is earned according to each month of service commencing with the employee's initial date of hire.
  • Less than three (3) years of employment, eighty (80) hours per year.
  • Three (3) to six (6) years of employment, one hundred twenty (120) hours per year.
  • More than six (6) years of employment, the one hundred twenty (120) hour total shall be supplemented by one (1) workday of paid leave for each twelve (12) months greater than seventy-two (72) months of employment. This vacation accrual is capped at thirty (30) workdays per year
Maximum accrual of vacation leave is 240 hours.

Sick Leave
Full-time employees accrue sick leave at a rate of 12 days per year. Maximum accrual of sick leave is 160 hours.
