About the role

  • The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth by developing and managing a strong pipeline of construction opportunities. This role is primarily market-facing, focused on identifying, qualifying, and securing new business opportunities through relationship development, strategic networking, and targeted pursuit efforts.
  • The Business Development Manager partners with internal operations teams to support project pursuits but does not own estimating or project strategy development. Success is measured by building a sustainable pipeline, deepening client relationships, and consistently converting opportunities into profitable, awarded projects.

What you'll do

Pipeline Development & Opportunity Capture

  • Build, manage, and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified construction opportunities
  • Identify and pursue target clients, projects, and markets aligned with company growth goals
  • Track opportunities from lead generation through contract award
  • Maintain CRM accuracy, including pipeline value, stages, and probability

Client Development & Relationship Management

  • Develop strong relationships with owners, developers, designers, general contractors, and key industry partners
  • Establish long-term partnerships that lead to repeat business and negotiated work
  • Serve as the primary point of contact during early client engagement
  • Drive client satisfaction and trust throughout the pursuit phase

Market Engagement & Networking

  • Representing the company at industry events, associations, and networking functions
  • Stay visible and active within the local construction and development community
  • Identify emerging opportunities through market presence and connections
  • Build strategic partnerships to expand market reach
  • Opportunity Qualification & Pursuit Support
  • Lead go/no-go recommendations based on client, project fit, and strategic value
  • Facilitate handoff to estimating teams for budgeting and technical development
  • Support pursuit messaging, positioning, and win strategy development
  • Participate in interviews, presentations, and client meetings

Contracting & Closing

  • Lead negotiations and support contract execution in partnership with leadership
  • Drive deal closure and ensure alignment with company objectives

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in estimating, project management, or business development within construction, electrical contracting, or related industries.
  • Strong technical understanding of estimating, project planning, and construction operations.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining client relationships.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, market analysis, and pursuit management.
  • Knowledgeable with estimating software, CRM tools, and project management platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Professional certifications (DBIA, ASPE, LEED, etc.) are a plus.
