The Opportunity

This role presents an exciting opportunity for a dynamic finance professional with strong executive presence to advance their career within one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. The Business Development Finance, Insights and Analytics (BDFIA) team is seeking finance professionals who are eager to provide multi-faceted support within the Corporate Business Development organization at  Genentech/Roche - comprising Pharma Partnering, Business Development, Alliance Management, BDFIA, and M&A.

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within Corporate Business Development and BDFIA to provide robust financial support on global business development opportunities. 

  • Drive enterprise-first investment decisions that articulate the priorities and strategies of the R&D units independently and as a whole.

  • Support with BD FIA team members on multiple concurrent deals to optimally structure transactions for considerations around strategic fit, value, accounting, tax and risk profile. 

  • Lead analysis of financial models underpinning deal terms; analyze underlying economics quickly to identify key value drivers and sensitivities. Provide outputs to help the organization develop financial recommendations for committee & senior management reviews. 

  • Manage and continuously improve BDFIA tools and information, including valuation models, negotiation playbooks, and financial deal databases, to ensure a consistent foundation across the group. 

  • Contribute to embedding AI—including agentic AI and workflow automation where appropriate—into BDFIA’s day-to-day work to improve the quality, speed, consistency, and scalability of analysis and decision support. Identify, test, validate, and operationalize high-value use cases; translate successful approaches into reusable tools, standards, and workflows

  • Provide accounting expertise and develop accounting memos to assess accounting implications of potential deal structures.

  • Ensure the interpretation, collation and delivery of financial input from key stakeholders in licensing transactions including Portfolio Management, Research & Development, Legal, Commercial, Accounting, Finance and Tax.

Who You Are

  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in corporate finance, investment banking, transaction advisory, management consulting, business development finance, or a related field.

  • Bachelors degree in finance or relayed field required; ; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.

  • Experience with transactions, valuation, strategic investments, or other complex financial decisions strongly preferred.

  • Strong financial analysis capabilities, including financial modeling, valuation, and financial statement analysis, with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize confidential information and support complex investment decisions.

  • Comfortable analyzing complex legal documents and interpreting nuanced legal and commercial language.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including attorneys, scientists, bankers, consultants, and due diligence teams.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage a broad workload while providing high-quality advice and support to deal teams during peak periods.

  • Fearless self-starter with a “can do” attitude, strong executive presence, personal accountability, and the ability to act without waiting for detailed direction.

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical and biotechnology development economics across the asset lifecycle, with the ability to connect scientific, clinical, commercial, market, and macroeconomic considerations to valuation, risk, investment decisions, and deal dynamics.

  • Demonstrated fluency, curiosity, and hands-on experience applying AI to financial analysis, knowledge work, and workflow automation, with the judgment to identify high-value use cases and translate experimentation into practical business outcomes. 

  • Applies sound judgment, appropriate human oversight, and rigorous protection of confidential and transaction-sensitive information.

Relocation benefits are not available for this position.

The expected salary range for this position, based on the primary location in California, is $110,100 - $254,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
