Full Job Description
We are seeking a Business Controller that serves as the head of the Finance and Accounting function and acts as the liaison between the Finance Department and executive leadership. This position is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting strategic decision-making, and presenting accurate, timely financial information to senior leadership. This role reports directly to the COO and partners closely with corporate officers to support operational efficiency, financial planning, and long-term business objectives.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership & Strategy
  • Leads and manages all financial functions of the organization, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with business goals
  • Serves as the primary financial liaison between the Finance Department and corporate officers
  • Provides strategic financial insights to support executive decision-making
  • Presents monthly financial performance reports, forecasts, and variance analyses to the COO and President
  • Works closely with the Finance Manager of the Company's UK subsidiary to ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly close activities and financial reporting
  • Coordinates entity-level financial reporting and ensures results are properly consolidated into global roll-up financial presentations
  • Supports consistency in accounting treatment, reporting standards, and presentation across domestic and international entities
  • Supports long-term planning initiatives including capital investments, cost control strategies, and operational improvements


Accounting Operations
  • Oversees the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Ensures the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and all supporting schedules
  • Supervises accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting functions
  • Maintains and improves internal controls and financial procedures
  • Ensures timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Oversees NetSuite configuration impacting financial reporting, including chart of accounts, segments, classifications, and approval workflows
  • Serves as the primary internal resource for maintaining financial system controls within NetSuite and coordinating updates, enhancements, and issue resolution with internal stakeholders and external support partners as needed

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
  • Leads the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting activities
  • Monitors departmental and company-wide performance against budgets
  • Performs variance analysis and recommends corrective actions where appropriate
  • Develops financial models to support operational and strategic initiatives

Compliance & External Coordination
  • Oversees tax compliance in coordination with external CPA firms
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
  • Coordinates external audits and financial reviews
  • Maintains compliance with internal corporate policies and reporting requirements; initiates the creation of policies and procedures within the department, where necessary

Manufacturing & Operational Support
  • Partners with operations leadership to analyze production costs, inventory levels, and margin performance
  • Monitors cost accounting structures and recommends efficiency improvements
  • Supports inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance tracking
  • Provides financial insight into purchasing, production planning, and capital expenditures

Team Leadership & Development
  • Directly supervises and mentors the Junior Accountant and Accounting Clerk
  • Establishes priorities, workflows, and performance expectations within the department
  • Promotes a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance departmental efficiency through process improvements and automation

Minimum Qualifications/Preferred Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA designation or MBA preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience required, preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing full-cycle accounting operations required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements required
  • Experience working with external auditors and CPA firms as the primary point of contact preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel required (NetSuite ERP experience strongly preferred)
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience required
  • Familiarity with multi-entity or corporate reporting environments required
  • Experience with cost accounting and inventory management in a manufacturing setting required
  • Experience presenting financial data to executive leadership
