Inspector - Bridge Painting

Position Summary

PACO Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced Inspector to support the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Construction & Development (MTA C&D) and the Long Island Rail Road Business Unit. The Inspector will provide field inspection and construction-administration support for bridge painting work at various structures throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The role requires strong knowledge of surface preparation, protective coating systems, construction documentation, railroad safety, and contract compliance.

Key Responsibilities
• Inspect and verify the completion and quality of surface preparation and bridge painting work at project sites.
• Perform visual and physical inspections of surface cleaning, preparation, and coating-system installation in accordance with AMPP requirements.
• Review contractor monthly submittals for accuracy and completeness, including certified payrolls; Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) updates; schedules; payment requisitions; work plans; and shop drawings.
• Coordinate with Senior Field Inspectors to review contractor and consultant invoices for payment based on verified work progress.
• Prepare complete daily inspector reports in the Manual for Uniform Record Keeping format and maintain accurate electronic project records in the designated Project Management Information System.
• Read and interpret contract specifications, construction plans, containment drawings, and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) drawings.
• Monitor construction activities for compliance with LIRR design and construction procedures, project safety requirements, and the third-party contract Quality Plan.
• Promptly notify appropriate MTA personnel of events, deficiencies, safety concerns, or other matters requiring immediate attention.
• Coordinate LIRR flag protection and assist with planning and coordinating track outages and foul time required for construction activities.
• Travel between project locations as needed and provide timely updates to MTA personnel during urgent circumstances.
• Safely navigate active and physically demanding sites, including inclined embankments, train tracks, ballast, elevated or lifted work platforms, and similar conditions.
• Attend MTA Roadway Worker Protection training and maintain the required certification throughout the assignment.

Required Qualifications
• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in bridge painting, construction, and inspection.
• At least three (3) years of experience verifying completed construction work; inspecting surface cleaning, preparation, and coating-system installation; and interpreting contract specifications, construction plans, containment drawings, and MPT drawings.
• Current Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) Coatings Inspector Program Level 1 certification (CIP Level 1) or Bridge Coatings Inspector Level 1 certification (BCI Level 1). Certification must remain valid throughout the assignment.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health training completed within the past five (5) years.
• Valid driver's license.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Word, and Excel.

Preferred Qualification

Experience working in railroad operations or within an active railroad environment.

Physical and Work Requirements
• Ability to work primarily in the field and move safely through active construction and railroad environments.
• Ability to access uneven terrain, embankments, tracks, ballast, and elevated work platforms.
• Ability to report to alternate project sites on short notice when operational needs require.
• Availability for occasional night and weekend work.

Compensation

The good-faith compensation rate range for this position is approximately $45-$60 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, certifications, technical expertise, and client requirements.
