Bridge Load Rating EngineerLocation: New York, NYIn this role, you will perform bridge load ratings, structural design, and other evaluations to determine live load capacities based on As-Inspected conditions. Your work will help assess the need for load posting, rehabilitation, or bridge replacement. This position offers a mix of office and field work.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct structural analysis of highway bridges to determine load ratings for design, legal, and permit vehicles using available plans, inspection reports, and prior ratings.
- Work with various structural materials including steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, masonry, and timber.
- Prepare detailed notes, calculations, reports, and other deliverables based on client requirements.
- Apply critical-thinking skills to develop engineering concepts and solutions.
- Perform quality control reviews of work done by other engineers.
- Provide technical advice regarding the structural behavior of bridges, guiding inspectors to critical locations or assessing the severity of member section losses.
- Analyze ancillary structures such as supports for highway signs, luminaires, and traffic signals.
- Provide recommendations for improving or maintaining the condition of structures.
- Develop repair details for structures with advanced section loss or damage.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Skills & Abilities:- Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural analysis, design, and load rating of highway and/or railroad bridges, culverts, and sign supports on state-specific DOT or Transportation Agency projects.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with a passion for learning and collaboration.
- Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Manual, Manual for Bridge Evaluation (MBE), and state-specific Design Standards.
- Proficient in structural analysis/design software such as AASHTOWare BrR, MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Excel, and MathCAD.
- Experience with state DOT agencies is a strong plus.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Master's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is a plus.
- Certified Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) is a plus.
- Valid Driver's License.
- 2-3 years of experience in structural analysis, design, and/or bridge load rating.
