Full Job Description
The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a Bridge Engineer to our Transportation team based in Calgary or Edmonton, AB.

Your Role:
  • Construction inspection of bridge and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Coordination with our other business units may be required for project delivery.
  • Supporting and preparing engineering reports such as site assessments, design & drafting details, construction cost estimates and reporting.
  • Provide technical support during construction of standard bridges and culverts.
  • Provide technical support during the construction of major bridges as required, level of involvement will be dependent on the successful candidate's level of experience and qualifications.
  • Structural Design Competencies
    • Conceptual, preliminary and detailed design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil structures;
    • Bridge assessment and rehabilitation design;
    • Quantities and construction cost estimates;
    • Checking of designs and drawings;
    • Specifications and contract document preparation;
    • Review of shop drawings and field review of bridge construction;
    • Preparation of reports
  • Coordinate and perform fabrication inspections for culvert materials and precast concrete girders.
  • Coordinate and supervise junior staff, survey crews and material testing during construction activities.
  • Preparation of prequalification, tender and contract documents.
  • Perform construction and post-construction supervision.
  • Other duties required to conduct our business and build on the job knowledge.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.


Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Technology from an accredited program.
  • Registered and in good standing as P.Eng., P.L.(Eng.), or P.Tech.(Eng.).
  • 5+ years' relevant experience in design and/or construction management for roadway and bridge infrastructure, including standard bridges and bridge sized culverts in Alberta.
  • Proven experience in planning, preliminary and detailed design, and construction of bridges (standard and complex geometries).
  • Proficiency with structural analysis/design software (e.g., CSIBridge, MIDAS, SAP).
  • Thorough knowledge of current design codes and standards (CAN/CSA S6 19/25 emphasized). AASHTO experience considered an asset.
  • Experience in inspection, assessment, and rehabilitation of existing structures (asset).
  • Experience with precast concrete fabrication inspections (asset).
  • PCI Level I/II and/or ACI Field Testing certifications considered an asset.
  • Experience delivering consulting work for Alberta Transportation, Economic Corridors, municipalities, or federal clients (asset).
  • Ability to read, review, and produce engineered drawings and detailed technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills; comfortable managing small project teams and client interactions.
  • Self starter with good time management, able to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 driver's license and provide a current driver's abstract (preference for a clean driving record).
  • Willingness to travel and work in field settings; physically capable of required field duties.
