In accordance with Truist in-office expectations, this role will be in office 5 days/week.

Strategically align and drive the Truist mortgage underwriting philosophy promoting risk mitigation, monitoring quality consistency, and identifying opportunities for process efficiencies within the Underwriting framework for all loan product types generating annual origination volume. Continually enhance cross functional relationships with Operations, Sales, Risk, and Quality leadership through proactive, effective management and problem resolution to promote teammate development, adherence to investor/bank guidelines and ensure a positive client experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

1. Provide strategic direction and leadership to Underwriting Managers and other staff as needed within the Retail Loan Fulfillment functions. Set and manage teams to department goals and objectives ensuring alignment with line of business (LOB), Risk Management Organization and corporate business objectives. Coach, mentor, and develop knowledge, skills and abilities of department leadership, which includes identifying and communicating appropriately the strengths and opportunities of department management and documenting performance evaluations per Human Systems policies.
2. Maintain a strong understanding of Mortgage Lending products, policies, processes, and their required documentation. Act as an escalation point between other operational departments and sales related to credit decisions. Ensure pipeline metrics and quality guidelines are met and appropriate decisions are rendered within risk parameters established by the Bank and/or investor.

3. Support teammate training, onboarding, and development including mentoring managers to drive the underwriting philosophy, ensuring guidelines provide clarity in rendering credit decisions, participating in monthly UW centric forums.

4. Evaluate appropriate staffing in coordination with capacity forecasts and provide recommendations

5. Foster open and ongoing relationships with sales channel, LOB managers, and operational departments, including Senior Leadership Team members. Actively participate in feedback exchange forum with sales leadership to garner input, communicate strategic initiatives and accomplishments, and provide clarity on Underwriting related matters through participation in Divisional Sales Manager meetings.

6. Identify and present opportunities for adjustments to Credit Policy & Underwriting Authority criteria that mitigate risk and support production efforts to the Loan Quality and Delivery Manager.

7. Proactively participate in and set strategy with relevant LOBs and segment owners to ensure holistic support of retail lending fulfillment functions when developing new products, processes, policies, and procedures.

8. Drive manager expectations for teammate execution on daily activities impacting Issues Management and remediation plans to ensure deliverables are met timely.

9. Ensure the adherence to all appropriate risk management policies, procedures, controls and compliance regulations. Recognize and address quality trends in partnership with Shared Services, Loan Quality & Delivery, and GCO by monitoring patterns on loans that impact risk management. Provide direction to Underwriting Managers on actions to foster or implement and monitor to drive desired performance.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Business or related field, or equivalent education and related training
2. Eight years of large bank experience with strong emphasis in operational and credit risk management
3. Four years of management and leadership experience.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the origination life cycle including familiarity with Government-Sponsored Enterprise (GSE) automated underwriting systems and guidelines for all loan products.
5. Proven credit, analytical, and problem-solving skills
6. Strong knowledge of compliance, risk, and regulatory parameters
7. Relationship building and ability to drive decision-making through a consensus-building approach
8. Ability to drive desired teammate actions through motivational leadership
9. Demonstrated and proven ability to translate key strategic decisions into actionable initiatives
10. Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal, in relating to internal and external clients
11. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
12. Ability to travel, occasionally overnight

1. Master's degree in Business or related field, or equivalent education and related training
2. Experience in technology-based, multi-project work environment
3. Experience and training in public speaking and group facilitation
4. Demonstrated experience with cross-functional collaborations

To comply with the Virginia pay transparency statute and for work locations in Virginia only, the annual base salary for this position is $120k - $137k.
