Full Job Description
Civil Service Title- Administrative Engineer (NM) * IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE CIVIL SERVICE LIST, EXAM # 5163.* The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City. Serves as a technical lead of Engineering Review & Support's In-House Design Unit for the analysis and design of bridge foundations, providing innovative, safe, and cost-effective solutions for city bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects. This role requires extensive experience in geotechnical-structural interaction, deep and shallow foundation design, and coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Performs difficult and technically complex analysis and design of bridge foundation systems, including drilled shafts, driven piles, micropiles, spread footings, and retaining structures. Develops foundation design calculations, reports, plans, specifications, and construction details in accordance with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and applicable federal, state, and city standards. Reviews geotechnical reports and collaborates with geotechnical engineers to establish design parameters and foundation recommendations. Performs structural analyses related to foundation behavior, settlement, lateral loading, scour, and seismic effects. Provides technical oversight, quality assurance, and mentoring to junior engineers. Supports construction engineering by reviewing contractor submittals, responding to RFIs, and providing technical assistance during construction.
