We have one opening for an 8-hour, 11-month Board Certified Behavior Analyst position in the Special Education Department.

BASIC FUNCTIONUnder the direction of the Director of Special Education or designee, consult with staff concerning appropriate learning strategies and positive behavior interventions, supporting students in accessing instruction in the least restrictive environment. This is a classified position.
Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), 1:1 Aide Assessments, and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). Presents findings at Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings
  • Support staff in the implementation of BIPs for identified students
  • Implement and coach staff on research-based/validated methods of classroom management and behavior strategies, as well as methods of data collection
  • Consult with support staff regarding the implementation of BIPs
  • Coordinate ongoing staff development of co-instructional staff
  • Collaborate with behavioral support staff
  • Maintain appropriate records and prepare reports as required
  • Develop and deliver targeted/sequenced trainings
  • Assist and lead school site teams in devising Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies and supports
  • Train, support, and model appropriate behavior strategies with students
  • Assist with developing replacement behaviors
  • Consult and intervene when behaviors escalate to keep the student and class safe
  • Assist with developing crisis plans with school team when a student engages in escalated behaviors
  • Travel to various school sites to support students with behavioral needs
  • Intervene and provide direct support with students engaging in escalated behaviors
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or needed

Experience:
Experience as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in a school setting is preferred

Education:
Master's degree in applied behavior analysis, psychology, special education, child development, and/or related field

Licenses/Certification/Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification and/or willingness to become certified upon being hired
  • BCBA certification

Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL DEMANDSPersons performing service in this position classification will be expected to perform heavy work, which involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work. (Per the Code of Federal Regulations - Section 404.1567 "Physical Exertion Requirements")

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must be able to perform to carry out essential job functions.

  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 50 to 100 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Frequent bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students
  • This type of work involves sitting for a portion of the time, but will also involve walking or standing for extended periods
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business-related equipment, and handling and working with various materials and objects
  • Strenuous physical activity required; ability to run on sloped or uneven terrain and safely redirect students
  • Implementation and participation in CPI taught restraint techniques when necessary
  • Seeing to monitor student behavior during classroom activities
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations

  • Qualified applicants, who meet the minimum qualifications, will participate in a written examination and technical oral interview, which will demonstrate the required knowledge and skill for this classification. The weight percentage of the examination and interview will be 50/50. Those applicants who receive a passing score on the written exam and oral interview will be placed on an Eligibility List. The top three ranks of candidates on the Eligibility List, who are ready, willing and able to accept the position, will be invited to the Final Selection Interview with the hiring authority.
  • The eligibility list will be certified for a period of six months. It will be used to fill current, substitute, and future permanent openings.
  • Current classified employees are eligible to hold an additional position based on the needs of the District and must be approved by the Human Resources Director.

BENEFITS: Permanent employees will receive paid holidays, sick leave, vacation and longevity benefits per contract or Commission Rules. The District offers a comprehensive package of insurance benefits. Employees working less than full-time, but a minimum of four hours will contribute an amount proportionate to the number of assigned work hours for major medical insurance benefits. The District does not offer a package of insurance benefits to employees working less than four hours per day. The District provides life insurance for employees who work a minimum of 3 hours. In addition, the District offers a retirement plan which uses joint employee and employer contributions.

Fingerprinting:Employees will be charged for processing their fingerprints at the time they are hired. The fingerprints are used to complete a confidential background investigation. All candidates with a record of convictions must indicate such on the confidential data form, which is attached to the job application. A record of conviction will not automatically disqualify an applicant from employment, but failure to list all convictions may result in disqualification or dismissal.

Physical Examination: Newly hired employees must pass a qualifying Medical examination given by a District-appointed physician, which includes testing for illegal controlled substances.

Tuberculosis Exam: Newly hired employees must submit a Mantoux Skin screening and certificate of completion within the past 60 days that indicates freedom from active tuberculosis.

Immigration Reform and Control Act Of 1986:An Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) will be required along with the supporting documents listed on the I-9 form.
