Clearance Required:

Ability to Obtain Public Trust

What You Will Do:

We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to support institute research programs, with a focus on single-cell and spatial omics data analysis. This role requires expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, and integrative analysis to generate insights from complex cellular systems. The position involves collaborating with investigators and multidisciplinary teams to develop analytical strategies, ensure data quality, interpret results, and translate findings into actionable conclusions. This is a full-time role in Research Triangle Park, NC.

  • Collaborate with scientists, biologists, statisticians, bioinformaticians, and interdisciplinary teams to design experiments, analyze and interpret data, develop models, and generate biological insights.

  • Conduct computational analyses and interpret large-scale genomic, multi-omic, single-cell, sequencing, and platform-derived data using appropriate computational and statistical methods.

  • Develop, optimize, maintain, and troubleshoot bioinformatics programs, scripts, algorithms, tools, pipelines, and computational infrastructure to organize, mine, integrate, and analyze large and complex data sets.

  • Prepare scientific reports, progress updates, tables, graphs, slides, publication-quality graphics, written summaries, and presentations based on analyses of scientific and experimental data.

  • Design and execute computational experiments; develop specifications for new analyses; design, test, implement, and recommend analytical solutions and computational tools.

  • Maintain laboratory notebooks, computer databases, detailed documentation, reproducible workflows, standard operating procedures, meeting notes, progress updates, and final reports to support transparent and repeatable analyses.

  • Devise, evaluate, and apply novel and existing statistical, bioinformatics, and data-processing methods to identify trends, patterns, and valid scientific conclusions.

  • Research and review literature to retrieve targeted clinical or scientific information, including novel statistical methods, from publicly available resources.

  • Review current and historical procedures for data acquisition, quality control, management, cleaning, and harmonization using descriptive statistics and analytical methods.

  • Train, onboard, instruct, and provide technical support to staff, students, investigators, laboratory personnel, and collaborators on computational analysis, bioinformatics tools, techniques, procedures, and project-specific data quality processes.

  • Interact with staff at all levels and communicate with outside collaborators in the U.S. and abroad.

  • Incumbent capture; no other candidates were considered because the incumbent candidate was identified and meets the labor category requirements provided by the customer.

What You Will Need:

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or related discipline

  • Minimum of SIX (6) years of experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related scientific discipline.

  • Hands-on background with single-cell analysis methodologies, including scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, and multi-omics approaches.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) datasets.

  • Proficiency with R and Python programming.

  • Working knowledge of Linux and Unix environments.

  • Skilled in statistical modeling, machine learning, and advanced data analysis techniques.

  • Ability to develop analytical pipelines and reproducible computational workflows.

  • Proven capability integrating and analyzing large-scale multi-omic datasets.

  • Strong record of presenting scientific results and producing technical reports and visualizations.

  • Familiarity with Seurat, Scanpy, Bioconductor, SAS, MATLAB, Java, Shell, PERL, and Bash.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD 7public trust8; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Background in spatial transcriptomics data analysis.

  • Knowledge of cloud computing environments and high-performance computing (HPC) platforms.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary research teams.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Familiarity with genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

  • Knowledge of bulk RNA sequencing and microarray analyses.

  • Ability to develop custom algorithms and computational infrastructure for biological research.

  • Capable of training scientific staff on bioinformatics tools and methodologies.

  • Background supporting core facilities or large collaborative research programs.

  • Publication record demonstrating contributions to computational biology or bioinformatics research.
