Description POSITION DESCRIPTION: Qcells USA is building its BESS System Integration product business and is seeking a BESS Product Strategy Manager professional to sit at the intersection of product development, market intelligence, and commercial execution. This role translates market signals, customer requirements, and competitive dynamics into clear product strategy, roadmap priorities, and go-to-market plans for the Qcells BESS platform and next-generation integrated energy storage solutions.
The ideal candidate has direct experience inside a BESS system integrator or Korean battery manufacturer's US operations - understanding both the technical depth of how BESS products are built and the commercial reality of how they are sold, priced, and financed in the US market. Korean bilingual capability is strongly preferred to bridge communication between the US commercial team and Qcells Korea HQ product and engineering teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Product Strategy & Roadmap - Own and maintain the Qcells' BESS system product roadmap - translating customer requirements, market trends, competitive gaps, and technology availability into prioritized development milestones
- Conduct ongoing competitive analysis across US BESS market: Tesla Megapack 3, Fluence SmartStack/Gridstack Pro, LG ES Vertech, Prevalon HD5, Wärtsilä Quantum, FlexGen/Powin, Sungrow - tracking specs, pricing, ITC/FEOC positioning, warranty terms, and software capabilities
- Define product positioning strategy for each target market segment: Utility-scale, C&I, Community Storage, and Data Center BTM/FTM
- Support evaluation and go/no-go decisions on new product features, DC Block supplier transitions (LG JF2 1 Samsung SDI SBB 2.0), and Gen 2 architecture choices
- Track US energy policy environment (IRA, OBBBA, FEOC rules, ITC/DCA thresholds, Section 301 tariffs) and assess impact on product strategy and competitive positioning
Product Management & Go-to-Market - Develop and maintain product configuration guides, pricing frameworks, and solution comparison tools for use by the sales and business development team
- Build and own bankability packages: Lender Engineering (LE)-ready documentation, UL9540/9540A test data summaries, NFPA 855 compliance materials, availability guarantee structures, and warranty term summaries
- Support RFP and RFI responses with product-specific technical and commercial content
- Define warranty strategy in coordination with cell suppliers (LG ES, Samsung SDI) and internal risk/finance teams; target 10-year standard / 20-year extended coverage
- Track project pipeline win/loss data by market segment; synthesize insights into product improvement recommendations
- Develop sales enablement materials: product one-pagers, technical comparison sheets, competitive battle cards, and customer-facing presentations
Business Planning & Market Intelligence - Build and maintain US BESS market sizing models by segment (Utility, C&I, Community, Data Center) with TAM/SAM/SOM analysis
- Develop annual product business plans: volume forecasts, ASP/margin models, capacity commitment schedules, and KPI frameworks
- Track and analyze competitor market share, project wins, contract announcements, and pricing trends
- Prepare executive and Korea HQ briefings on US market status, product competitiveness, and strategic recommendations
- Support investor, lender, and partner presentations with product strategy and market analysis content
Korea HQ & Cross-Functional Coordination - Serve as the US-side product strategy liaison to Qcells Korea HQ product, R&D, and engineering teams - conducting reviews and translating business context in Korean when required
- Coordinate across internal functions: Product Development, SCM/Procurement, Sales, EPC, Project Finance, and Legal to align product plans with execution reality
- Monitor and communicate ITC/DCA documentation requirements across the product BOM to ensure ITC 40% eligibility is preserved and clearly communicated to customers and lenders
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, Business, or related field required; Master's degree or MBA preferred
- 5-9 years of experience in the BESS or energy storage industry , with at least 3 years in a product management, product strategy, technical marketing, or business development role
- Direct experience at one or more of the following organizations strongly preferred and will be prioritized: LG Energy Solution Vertech, Samsung SDI ESS, SK On / SK Tes, FlexGen, Powin (pre-acquisition), W2rtsil2 Energy Storage, Fluence, Tesla Energy, Prevalon Energy, Sungrow, or Canadian Solar e-STORAGE
- Demonstrated understanding of how BESS products are specified, procured, financed, and deployed in US utility, C&I, or community storage markets
Technical Knowledge - Working knowledge of BESS system architecture: DC Block, AC Block, Skid-integration, LFP cell selection, PCS/BMS/EMS integration, thermal management, and safety systems
- Familiarity with key BESS performance metrics: RTE (Round-Trip Efficiency), SOH, cycle life, availability, and LCOS (Levelized Cost of Storage)
- Understanding of IRA domestic content (DCA), FEOC compliance rules, ITC/PTC incentive structures, and their impact on product eligibility and project economics
- Familiarity with BESS safety and certification standards: UL9540, UL9540A, UL1973, NFPA 855, IEC62619
- Basic understanding of US utility interconnection (IEEE 1547, UL1741 SA/SB) and grid services (frequency response, energy arbitrage, capacity)
Commercial & Analytical Skills - Ability to build and maintain market sizing models, competitive analysis frameworks, and product P&L models
- Experience developing customer-facing technical and commercial proposals, product presentations, and RFP responses
- Familiarity with project finance concepts: ITC, tax equity, debt sizing, DSCR, bankability requirements, and Lender Engineering review process
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel for strategy documents, financial models, and executive presentations
Language & Communication - English: Full professional proficiency required - presenting to customers, developers, utilities, lenders, and executive leadership
- Korean: Conversational to professional working proficiency strongly preferred - for Korea HQ product/engineering coordination, HQ briefing preparation, and internal Korean-language meetings
- Strong written communication skills for product specifications, competitive analyses, market reports, and executive briefings in English; Korean writing a plus
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience with Geli EdgeLynx, HybridOS (FlexGen), Autobidder (Tesla), or comparable BESS EMS/VPP/optimization platforms
- Hands-on familiarity with Qcells OmniSkid, LG JF2 DC Block, Samsung SDI SBB, or Powin Centipede/Pod product lines
- Prior involvement in Lender Engineering (LE) technical diligence packages (DNV, Bureau Veritas, Arcadis) or tax equity/project finance data rooms
- Understanding of CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, NYISO market structures and BESS revenue stacking strategies
- Experience in product launch or market entry for a new BESS solution, including pricing strategy, channel strategy, and reference project development
- Existing professional network at US developers, IPPs, utilities, EPC contractors, or Korean battery OEM US teams
- Knowledge of Hanwha Group structure, Qcells solar + storage product lines, or related Korean chaebol business context
WORK ENVIRONMENT & EXPECTATIONS: - Location: New Jersey office (Parsippany or Bedminster area) - Full-time on-site required
- Travel: 20-25% domestic travel for customer visits, project sites, industry conferences (RE+, Energy Storage Summit, Solar Power International), and Korea HQ visits (1-2x per year)
- Schedule: Standard US business hours with periodic early morning or late evening availability for Korea HQ coordination calls
- Reports to: Sr. Director, BESS & Energy System Solution Development
- Works closely with: Sales & BD, EPC, SCM/Procurement, Project Finance, Legal, and Korea HQ Product/R&D teams
COMPENSATION: In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, the anticipated annual base salary for this position is:
- Zone 1 (Bay Area, NYC): $164,400 - $184,900
- Zone 2 (CA, NJ, NY): $150,700 - $169,500
- Zone 3 (All others): $137,000 - $154,100
The applicable salary range is based on the employee's primary work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, internal equity, and other business-related factors.
