Benefits Realization Manager

Category: Business Consulting, Strategy and Digital Transformation

Main location: United States, Texas, Dallas

Position ID:J0926-0360

Employment Type: Full Time

Position Description:

We are seeking an experienced Benefits Realization Manager to establish rigor around how business value is defined, validated, measured, and realized across strategic initiatives and technology investments.

This role will be responsible for independently assessing proposed project benefits and ROI prior to approval, ensuring that financial assumptions and expected business outcomes are clearly defined, measurable, and supported by appropriate data. The Benefits Realization Manager will work with business, finance, technology, and program teams to identify the key performance indicators (KPIs) impacted by each initiative, understand how those KPIs are calculated, establish appropriate baselines and targets, and define how benefits will be measured following implementation.

Following project delivery, this role will track actual performance against the approved business case, ROI, and KPI commitments to determine whether expected benefits are being realized and to identify gaps requiring further action.

This role is located in Dallas, TX.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities
Business Case & ROI Validation
• Review proposed project business cases to validate expected financial and operational benefits prior to project approval.
• Challenge and validate ROI assumptions, including revenue improvement, cost reduction, cost avoidance, productivity gains, efficiency improvements, and other quantified benefits.
• Assess whether proposed benefits are supported by credible assumptions, data, baselines, and calculation methodologies.
• Identify potential double-counting, unsupported assumptions, dependencies, or other risks that could overstate expected benefits.
• Partner with Finance, business owners, and project teams to establish a consistent methodology for calculating ROI and expected benefits.
• Ensure proposed benefits can be practically measured following implementation before they are incorporated into an approved business case.
• Maintain traceability between approved investments, expected outcomes, financial commitments, and measurable business results.
KPI Definition & Measurement
• Identify the business and operational KPIs expected to be impacted by proposed initiatives.
• Develop a detailed understanding of how each KPI is calculated, including underlying data sources, formulas, reporting cadence, ownership, and potential limitations.
• Establish documented pre-implementation baselines against which future performance can be measured.
• Define measurable KPI targets and appropriate timeframes for benefit realization.
• Ensure that appropriate measurement mechanisms and data sources are available prior to project implementation.
• Work with business and data teams to resolve inconsistencies or gaps in KPI definitions and measurement methodologies.
• Distinguish between correlation and attributable project impact when evaluating changes in business performance.
Post-Implementation Benefits Realization
• Track actual benefits following project implementation against the ROI, KPI targets, and other commitments contained in the approved business case.
• Develop and maintain benefits realization scorecards and dashboards showing approved vs. actual performance.
• Measure financial and operational outcomes at appropriate intervals following implementation.
• Identify initiatives that are meeting, exceeding, or falling short of their approved benefit targets.
• Investigate variances between projected and realized benefits and work with business owners to understand root causes.
• Identify situations where benefits have been delayed, reduced, displaced, or not realized.
• Partner with project and business owners to establish corrective actions or benefit recovery plans when expected outcomes are not being achieved.
• Continue benefit tracking beyond technical project completion to ensure accountability for the business outcomes that justified the investment.
Governance & Executive Reporting
• Establish and maintain consistent benefits realization standards, templates, methodologies, and governance processes.
• Create clear executive-level reporting showing investment, committed benefits, realized benefits, outstanding benefits, and forecasted benefit realization.
• Provide portfolio-level visibility into whether strategic investments are producing the business outcomes originally used to justify funding.
• Identify systemic trends across the portfolio, including recurring causes of missed ROI or inaccurate business case assumptions.
• Provide objective, data-driven insights to leadership to support future investment and prioritization decisions.
• Partner with PMO, Finance, Product, Technology, Data/Analytics, and business leadership to embed benefits realization throughout the project lifecycle.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Required Qualifications
• Experience in benefits realization, business case development, financial analysis, portfolio management, transformation, strategy, PMO, or related disciplines.
• Strong understanding of ROI, financial modeling, business case development, and investment evaluation.
• Demonstrated ability to validate financial and operational assumptions and challenge business cases constructively.
• Strong understanding of KPI development, baselining, measurement, and performance management.
• Ability to understand how operational and financial metrics are calculated and trace those metrics to underlying data sources.
• Experience tracking project or program outcomes against approved business cases and expected benefits.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, anomalies, unsupported assumptions, and performance gaps.
• Ability to translate complex financial, operational, and technical information into concise executive-level insights.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively across Finance, Technology, Operations, Product, and executive leadership.
• Ability to operate independently and objectively while working collaboratively with project and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting large-scale transformation, technology modernization, AI/data, or enterprise investment portfolios.
• Experience within telecommunications or another large, complex enterprise environment.
• Experience with portfolio management, transformation offices, or enterprise PMOs.

• Experience developing executive dashboards and benefits realization reporting using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.

• Experience establishing or improving benefits realization frameworks and governance processes.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work across Finance, Business, Technology, Data, Product, and PMO organizations.

Measures of Success
Success in this role will be measured by the organization's ability to:
• Establish credible and measurable ROI before investments are approved.
• Clearly define the KPIs and business outcomes associated with each approved initiative.
• Establish reliable baselines before implementation.
• Track actual benefits against approved commitments after implementation.
• Identify benefit shortfalls early enough for corrective action to be taken.
• Provide leadership with transparent visibility into what was promised, what was delivered, and what value was actually realized.
• Improve the accuracy and quality of future business cases based on lessons learned from actual benefit realization.
