This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Battery Responsible Engineer - Electrical Power Systems - New Glenn

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for developing and qualifying avionic hardware products, specifically related to Li-Ion batteries in support of New Glenn mission. You will have responsibility for hardware development and successful qualification per company and industry standards. You will support system integration with other multi-functional teams, as well as component, module, and subsystem level validation as well as introducing the design to volume production.

As a Responsible Engineer (RE) for avionics hardware, you are responsible for all aspects of the product design, development, qualification, and hardware production. You will:

  • Develop, manage, and maintain a full system design and its associated documentation (CAD, drawings, ICDs, BOMs, etc)
  • Provide technical support during flight build, test, and delivery to other areas of the technical execution team
  • Work closely with the program and manufacturing team through build, test, and delivery of flight hardware.
  • Support the development of the Automated Test Equipment and transition of the product from development to production release.
  • Support the development of the hardware requirements, test plans and procedures in compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Be responsible for the successful qualification of the hardware.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for integration into the vehicle and assist in troubleshooting and vehicle integration.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of direct experience in battery development, 3+ year in space applications desired
  • Direct experience with Battery Design, Test, and Manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with lithium-ion batteries and battery test methods.
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the mechanical assembly product lifecycle
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs
  • Highly organized team player with excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to travel to and work at remote sites supporting test integration, commissioning, and training

 

Desired:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • Experience in development of launch vehicles
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance aircraft systems
  • Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle
  • Experience with safety-critical systems development (automotive, aerospace, medical, etc.)
